Archetype John Mayer Preset Thread

Figured I’d kick things off — drop your presets below, share what you were going for, and let’s build something useful for the community.

I’ll start:

Dead & Company (Edited) My take on a Dead & Co. Just little tweaks that make it a little more Grateful Dead in general.

Eric Clapton Clean (Fender era) – I love Eric Clapton. Started messing around with the JM fender amp and came up with this. More close to his 2000+ era

Would love to see more folks add to some of the fun things you are doing with the JM Plugin!

I just used a combination of Gemini/ChatGPT and some tweaking to try and get an SRV Lenny tone.

Let me know what you think, and feel free to make any suggestions!

SRV Lenny (GPTSig).xml (4.9 KB)

Dude this is beautiful! I think for my pickups I had to turn the treble down a hair. This is so nice!!

I’m not sure what a SRV Lenny tone should sound like, but I like this preset you shared!

Can you tell me what your prompting workflow is like for neural DSP preset-making? ty

Glad you liked it  Makes sense in the tweak as I’ve got noiseless pickups which are a bit darker.

I pretty much just put a prompt in like “I have plug in xyz and a Strat with noiseless pickups, tell me how to create the lead tone from xyz” I sometimes also say I have multiple plug ins and also ask which is the best and then how to configure it.

Previously I’ve only used Gemini and had good results, but decided to also try ChatGPT this time. I then plugged in both (note they don’t always name the settings exactly right so you have to interpret the response). With these I compared them and felt the effects side sounded better with the ChatGPT prompts, but it sounded a bit thin compared to Gemini’s suggestion. So the basis of the shared preset was the effects/EQ etc from the ChatGPT prompts and then used the amp and amp settings from Gemini. Then just did a few little tweaks to taste.

I find the tools are great for just getting you straight to the ballpark of what you need.

Probably a dumb question but how do I use/try your Lenny .xml file? Is this file something I’m supposed to be able to load into my JM plugin? If so, I don’t see how/where to load an external preset into the plugin. What am I missing here? Thanks!

Your presets should be saved in folders on your computer. On MacOS this is the location:

You then go into the relevant plug in folder and you’ll see folders like the folders in the plug in. I actually separate out ones I download from here in a “Forum” folder so I drop the xml files in there. Basically the folder structure within the plug in folder will be what you see in the plug in itself:

So this:

Looks like this in the plug in: (See it’s added the “Forum” grouping)

Hopefully that helps! In my Tone King one I’ve even created folders for different sources as I got a few patches from a couple of the learning sites I use. Makes it easier to find.

Also probably good to back that location up from time to time. Mine’s included in my Time Machine backup for my Mac.

and on Windows, plugins go in the folder: C:\ProgramData\Neural DSP\Archetype John Mayer X\User

or you can use the “Import” button within the plugin itself to locate the file you downloaded and It probably puts it in the correct spot for you.

Definitely helps, thanks much!

I haven’t found an “Import” button. Is there one in the Plugin UI? Anyway, I can use the plugin folders in the file system now. Thanks

Yes, press the three vertical dots to the right of “Save As” in the preset section. You will see the choices change to “Import”, “Reset”, and “Locate File”

So, is the J.M. x plug in now usable right out of the quad?? I thought we were waiting on some quad update??

No I think it’s still waiting for the next CorOS update for Quad Cortex compatibility.

I currently only use the desktop plug in.

That plugin is scheduled to be available on the QC’s next firmware update:

CorOS 4.1.0

CorOS 4.1.0 will be the largest PCOM (Plugin Compatibility) update we have released. It will bring compatibility for Archetype: Petrucci X, Archetype: Tim Henson X, Archetype: Rabea X, Archetype: Misha Mansoor X, and Archetype: John Mayer X, as well as additional free virtual devices and quality of life improvements. We will share more about this update as we get closer to the launch date.
