Hello all!
I’m sorry for asking something that most of you might consider obvious, but I would like you opinion on this:
I’m hooking up my Quad Cortex with my tube amp in 4 cable method. What should I be wary of in terms of levels? (I wouldn’t want the device to reach clipping levels). Secondly, I would like to be able to have a certain preset in which the QC is bypassed, meaning I would only want the dry, tube amp sound coming out-should I keep an FX loop block (as you would in 4 cable method) activated in the QC in order to do so?
Thank you in advance!
In retrospect, I have found out how useful and practical Scenes mode is (yes, I’m that much of a noob when it comes to QC) and the second leg of my question isn’t relevant. However, using my QC with a high gain tube amp (VHT/Fryette Ultralead) I’m really scared of it being damaged due to high volumes. How can I keep it in check?
You’re scared of damaging the head because of high volumes? You’ll be absolutely fine with that head. They’re built well.
Just make sure nothing is clipping going in/out of the QC. As long as you do that and make sure the ohms of the head/cab are connected properly it’ll be fine. Having done tours with people using 6x12’s and full stacks that are insanely loud……there’s no danger to your head
Thank you very much for your prompt reply! It’s actually the QC I’m scared of damaging. How can I make sure that there’s unity gain level in every device (QC and Ultralead head) involved?
You won’t damage the QC. Just check the levels in the I/O menu when you’re adding stuff to make sure it isn’t clipping. That’ll also be what you can use to make sure stuff is at unity gain. But the QC definitely won’t get damaged from any level that the head makes. As long as you don’t plug in the speaker cable to the QC. That would be the only way to damage it in this scenario.
Thank you very much!
