Question about FX loop gain

I run a 4 cable method with the quad cortex and a PRS amp.
My question:
Should QC FX Loop return (post amp preamp) and/or the line out to Amp FX return (post QC wet effects) be adjusted to bring the level to unity gain? Is there a rule of thumb or is it just one of those, “adjust to taste” kinds of things?

I aim for unity gain. The FX loops are one of the biggest disappointments I have with the QC… I find I have to reduce the send and boost the return to get them to work properly with the pedals I have attached. Playing with the send and return levels is something I go back to frequently if I hear any weirdness happening. They also introduce some hiss to my signal…

I saved this from a long time ago. Thanks DavidRSTV

I just set the send to -4.5dB and return to -0.1dB and seems to do the trick.

I actually just saved that as my default for the fix loop block so it always pulls up that way

The manual only gives info about how to route cables. That’s not the question. Thanks though.

Ok, that’s helpful. Just so I’m clear; you’re not looking at the meter and trying to get the actual level of audio to thise specs, you’re just attenuating the send and return those fixed values? I was wondering if I needed to boost the return from the amp preamp since it looks so low coming into the QC.

That’s what I’m experiencing as well. So, you’re getting the actual audio near unity on the meter. That’s what I was thinking.

it’s best to ‘earball’ it based on the meter plus how it sounds. The amount is a suggested starting point that works for most users, but I find it can vary a bit depending on what you’re connecting to. Some pedals and amps may need a touch more or less. But -5dB is a good starting point

I dont have many pedals to test, but this topic makes me wonder how prevalent it is with boost/reduction of levels in bypass or otherwise.

Oh, I wasn’t paying enough attention. Sorry.
