XLR outputs not loud enough vs plug outputs?

So I know the XLR outputs are 6db lower than the 1/4" but when I plug in directly out from qc to Outs 1 and 2 (XLR) to my monitors the sound is lower than a whisper despite the I/O levels showing evenpeaks in the out levels. the 1/4" outputs sound fine with all the other levels the same (fine being a mid level to loud tv in the room)

When using the XLRs to go to my interface it sounds fine but it´s because i´m adjusting gain and levels directly in the interface and output monitors

Can anyone help with this?

I am using the 1/2 XLR for PA and levels are fine. I use 3/4 for my monitors with TRS balanced jacks (jack-jack as my head rush monitors have Combi jack/XLR balanced inputs). TRS Jack to XLR cables will work fine too (Tip to 2, Ring to 3, ground to 1for the majority of equipment).

My QC big volume button only acts on 3/4 so I can easily change monitor volume during a show if needed.

Let us know if that works for you.

hi! it´s really not working for me i´m starting to think it might even be a hardware issue? using the XLR outs is such a low output they are basically unusable, any idea on how I could check on them working?

Here are some points to check:

I assume your monitors are amplified & have XLR balanced inputs ? Do they have -20 dB PAD switches that might be active and reduce volume?

Are your monitors working ok with another device as sound source ?

QC : How is your routing in your grid (presets) ? : do you output your signal to all outputs « equally » → output bloc

How is your Master Volume overlay setup (e.g. is your master volume set up to control the all outputs volume simultaneously or just some of the physical outputs)?

When checking the QC I/O settings, is the output pairing active ?

Do you have a global EQ setting active that could affect the output ?

heyo, thank you so much for the response, i apologize i was away from my qc for some days

  1. monitors are presonus eris e5 and the -db pads are at 0
  2. monitors work fine, i have them as the output for my pc.
  3. My set up is QC XLR outputs to Mboxaudio 2 (interface) to PC and the presonus as outputs and it all works fine. The issue is I tried connecting the XLR outputs directly to the XLR input in the presonus monitors and there it didn´t work even when clipping the output in the QC levels.

I wanted this to separate the QC use from the PC so I could play the QC without always having to use PC and turning it on to use the interface.

  1. Master volume in QC is at 100 and in the interface it varies, i can try and get some pictures and videos tomorrow, would be easier with a phone app for this forums but i´m not sure there is so let me try and upload them to Pc
  2. Output pairing was active but I deactivated it and it was the same
  3. I don´t think i have a global EQ setting

Thank you so much for your help and responses!

You are coming from a line output QC to a mic input XLR’s on the Mbox which would result in a way to high signal.

Your Mbox XLR is mic level (-10dB) while your eris are line +4dB therefore, you should connect your QC to the jack line inputs of your Mbox and not the XLRs and set your QC volume accordingly.

I would try to use (build) a pair of stereo jack cables (RTS) and use 3/4 from Qc to Mbox. Then run a pair of XLRs from QC to eris when using only those 2 and set the volume with the gain knob (U = unity and I believe it can give you 31dB boost if on max).

your eris seem to have a balanced jack input as well.
