Iam very curious about the preference of the community.
Do you prefer use capture? Modelling + external ir? Modeling + native cabs?
What sounds better to you?

for bass i’m currently using captures mainly, alongside some models and plugins, with external IRs.
alongside some analogue pedals in both loops and a compressor before the QC
I went in trying to recreate sounds and signal chains I had before my QC, and this is the easiest way for me to do it.
I’m using a little of each. I haven’t noticed one sounding better than another. If it sounds good, I’ll use it. I haven’t tried any v2 captures yet.
Very seldom do I ever use captures.
I rotate through about 10-15 of the stock amp models and plug-in amps that I really like. Lately I’ve been having a lot of fun with overdrive pedal blocks running into clean amp blocks, which is a major shift from the usual high-gain stuff I’m used to.
I run my presets in mono only and send the signal to an external power amp + speaker cab. I also have a split within the preset to a separate row with a stock cab model (typically the Mesa Trad Angled 4x12) before sending out to FOH.
My set-up is very similar to @DiffractionCircuit : drive blocks into clean/clean-ish amps, mono set-up, but I use a powered wedge for stage volume (still have a SD powerstage with me if I’m using backline, though). I’ve got 8 amps favourited: 4 stock, 3 from plugins, and 1 capture of my own amp. So the math on that is that my setup is 12.5% capture focused… so, minimal!
I find I’m actually scaling back on the blocks I’m using, too — I don’t need 3 reverbs, don’t need 3 delays, don’t need 3 overdrives, at least for a session. Recording is different but I’m becoming a bit simpler as I grow, and the sonic yield is more pleasing because there’s not as much analysis paralysis as there was at the start. I definitely had the idea of turning everything to 11 when I first got my QC and plugging everything in, but I’ve been dialling it back ever since because it’s all in the box, really.
That’s why I haven’t posted in the 'What kind of pedalboard are you using?" post because it’d just be a picture of my QC plugged in ![]()
I prefer models.
I’d like to do my own captures of my own amps adjusted playing my own guitars, but I’d need some extra gear that I don’t own.
