Solo Boost Strategies with NC

Hi there!

Just got my NC a couple of weeks ago and I am really enjoying sounds I am getting from the device.

I am planning to build a board, the smallest I can get: NC + Pirate MIDI Bridge 6 + Melo Audio Expression Pedal

In that scenario, I would need something as a solo boost, ideally not relying in preset changes to do that to avoid any gaps… I could use one of the effect blocks to that function, but it would cost me one of the blocks that could be used for a effect… other option would be to use some additional stomp ideally midi capable.

I would like to hear from you guys how are you handling this in your rig.

If you’re just looking for a dB boost you could configure your capture volume assigned to your expression pedal.

An additional way to go about this with four-preset mode is to think as if you only have 3 presets (say, a clean, a dirty, a lead… then, your fourth preset can just mirror the third with a little push on the settings to elevate it to a solo preset, so to speak).

If you can get by with 2 presets on your first footswitch (for example, preset 1 = clean sound, preset 2 = dirtier sound), then the 3rd and 4th preset accessed by the second footswitch should use the exact same sound. When you hit preset 3, it’s a lead sound but when you hit it again to engage preset 4, just have the existing preset tweaked (i.e. capture volume, amp block settings, etc) to boost the level a touch like how an OD would hit the front end of an amp. Having gigged live with the NC, I can confirm that this is works like a charm. K.I.S.S. method for me!

I do not have a NC yet but have been looking at how I would achieve various things if I make the switch. There is a video on YouTube from Morningstar about how to send expression values to the NC, so I am thinking it is possible to accomplish a boost by just having the NC use expression to control the level, then having the midi controller send a message to up the level. Note I have not tried this, but will when I pull the trigger on the NC in a few weeks.

I would hope that a future release would the ability to change level or overall volume directly via a midi CC.
