Hi!
I am using Hybrid Mode (Stomp + Scenes) in my QC to operate and trigger the Looper X controls.
However, I only have a single expression pedal, and I want to use it for two different tasks sequentially:
Looping: I want the expression pedal to control the Playback Level of the Looper X block so I can adjust and blend the backing loop volume.
Soloing: Once the looper volume is set and fixed, I want to step on a switch to play a guitar solo and I change to an Scene. At this point, I want the looper volume to stay locked at that level, and I want the exact same expression pedal to now control the gain/volume of a Gain or Volume block to boost my lead guitar over the loop.
Is it possible?
Any advice about this issue will be very appreciated.
I don’t think that what you described is possible today on the QC. I don’t know of a way to disassociate or freeze an expression pedal assignment on the fly, but maybe other more experienced users can comment.
One work-around that comes to mind: You can assign your expression pedal to control volume for both blocks, but set the direction to be opposite of each other. That way, you can adjust the balance point between the two. You can play with the start & end points for each device so that the volume stays within a useful range. I haven’t tried this myself, but it might work.
I dont think you can do this with just the QC and an xp. It is achievable if you use an xp throguh a midi controller. The xp would attach to the midi controller. The midi controller would determine what message from the xp is passed on using QC midi messages, swapping between xp 1 or xp 2.
Following this suggestion of changing the direction… I’m thinking now about using a dual expression pedal like the Electro Harmonix Dual Expression Pedal.
I’ve seen that it’s possible to change the polarity so, as I understand it, that would allow me to assign the function that Carl mentioned, and give me more control over volume changes.
So I can adjust things so that when the effect level rises, the looper level drops, and vice versa.
You actually don’t need a special pedal to have expression assignments in different directions. That is all handled within the QC. Any compatible expression pedal will work.
As an example, see the screenshot below. These are all assigned to one expression pedal (X1). The wah and tremolo are going up, and the delay time moves in the opposite direction. If you drag the handles (white circles) past each other, it will flip the direction. I also limited the range in some cases where I did not want that parameter to hit the min or max.
Glad that helped! One other possibility came to mind. You could also create separate branches in your preset and control the balance in the splitter with your expression pedal (see screenshot). Depending on how your preset is laid out, that may or may not work for you, but it’s good to have options.
