Quad cortex pitch to midi

Hi all!

With the amazing new update of Coros 3.3.0 we of course of the new mono synth block which sounds absolutely amazing!

however, while using this block it got me thinking, what else would be possible with stuff like this?

correct me if I’m wrong but the synth block would use some pitch to midi conversion right? How cool would it be if we were able to utilize this conversion for other things? Like possibly a hardware synth? We could use the midi out of the Cortex and plug that into a hardware synthesizer which would then be controlled by the guitar due to the pitch to midi conversion. There are already existing plugins out there (Jam origin Midi Guitar) that do this (jam origin midi guitar even has polyphonic tracking meaning that chords work as well).

Adding this feature seems like a small update to me as the synth block is already fully functional within the cortex and it would make for one helluva midi guitar/ synth setup.

Let me know what y’all think!

kind regards,

Youk

Hey, I had a similar thought when A:Rabea came out. I can’t remember all the details, but somehow the monosynth doesn’t use midi at all. It’s a pretty unique device.

doesn’t use midi at all

Right, but it has determine the pitch being played, so that it can tell the synth oscillator what frequency to oscillate at. It knows when notes start and stop. That’s all the info you need to build a MIDI note message.

Right now, they probably drive oscillator pitch directly from the detected pitch. To support bend/vibrato via MIDI, they just calculate the deviation from the nearest whole pitch and convert that into MIDI pitch bend information.

It’s something an engineer could add in an afternoon.
