Quad Cortex Development Update #52

With all respect gnumarco… One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
Guitar in > Amp out.

Hmmmm, yeah, but? I don’t get your point.

Quality Of Life, Quality Of Life, Quality Of Life, repeat after me…

Please, please, please can you fix some of the awful UI issues on the QC (mode changing, the way the ‘Undo’ button takes you out of the editing window and back to the Grid every. Single. Time.

These matter to me so much that I’m leaning towards the Headrush Core simply because it’s more fun to use - and it really shouldn’t be the case that ‘high end’ or ‘expensive’ means that it shouldn’t be fun to use and the UI should drive you nuts…

QoL QoL QoL :loudspeaker:

I’m 100% with you on that. I try to raise awereness about QoL updates and fixes since I got the QC and joined the forum. But most of them get ignored even though some of them have a LOT of votes and are low hanging fruits (like turning the LEDs on for scenes that aren’t active). I don’t get it.

I had 2 headrush primes just b4 I got the QC had to send both back for them both having the same fault and 2nd one having extra issues… Seems to be very common… Anyway the UI is great on them and the auto load cab is great aswell… But sound wise to me the QC beats it hands down and I got used to the QC after an hour or 2 using it… And can’t fault it either it’s just different

I agree, the QC sounds better - but I’m not headlining in front of 50,000 people every weekend, I’m playing local gigs, mostly for fun not money, using crappy PA’s to people who love the buzz of having live music but honestly don’t know or care whether I’m using a capture of a real AC30, or a model of it - in fact they won’t even know what an AC30 is.

So for me, and I suspect many other’s like me, the QoL stuff - or in other words, making the QC a joy to use - is AS (maybe more??) important than the stuff Neural seem to be obsessed with, like PCOM, new models etc etc.

Great you can’t fault the QC, but don’t think that sending two Headrush’s back means that’s a flawed system, and the QC isn’t; currently my QC often boots up with no sound at all, as many times as it boots up properly. And Cortex Control routinely crashes or doesn’t load at all. And I’m not alone in having these problems. And you’re right, each ecosystem is different, but the thing that you have to understand is that with the QC/NDSP you have the most incredible marketing machine behind it (look at all the coverage the Nano-Cortex is getting as an example)

I think it’s fair to say that the main gripe with NDSP/QC is that they promised A LOT at launch (and yes, they are making progress, but it’s taking a very very long time).
The big strap-line when they launched the QC was ‘A vulgar display of power’. I’ve felt over the years that they could easily re-brand that, with ‘A vulgar display of marketing’.

But all of my gripes can be fixed so easily, as they are largely UI issues; one of my top requests is that they address the idiotic way where the ‘Undo’ function in a model editing window actually closes the window and takes you back to the Grid. If I want to undo/redo a change to a parameter, it’s so I can compare the two sounds, and in every other modeller I’ve used, you can see the parameter change as you do this; so for example, let’s say you change an amp model gain from 5.0 to 7.0.
You would expect to be able to see the parameter change as you press undo/redo, so you can tweak it to taste, but instead as soon as you press ‘Undo’ the editing window closes and it takes you back to the Grid. I have posted about this repeatedly and have yet to hear one explanation why this would be a good idea, but many agree it is nonsensical. So it’s an oversight, or poorly thought through - in which case you’d think Neural would want to address this immediately, right? But 2 years later and it’s still as nonsensical as ever, which just leaves you with the overall impression that they don’t care, which makes you feel that you and your input are just not valued.

Don’t get me wrong, I know people on the Headrush forums say the same about the company ‘not listening’ and I’m sure the same is true for Fractal/Line 6 etc BUT… if you believe the marketing, you are led to believe that Neural are different/better, and there are a lot of simple, everyday Quality of Life (and that is Neural’s phrase, not mine) issues they need to (and easily can) address…

I’ll leave you with the words that the salesman in the shop I bought my QC from said to me when I bought it; he told me he’d owned one but eventually gave up on it, as NDSP were so slow to make it what it should have been from launch and he found the whole experience too frustrating.
2 years on, and I’m happy that so many others are happy with things like PCOM, but for me I’m getting tired of waiting for them to fix the little things that would make using the QC everyday the seamless and intuitive experience it could and should be, so I’m almost at the point of moving on as well. And that’s fine, of course, every one has a different experience. The point here however is how many people out there feel the same as me but don’t communicate here or on any other forum? And for everyone that loves the QC, whether you are a paid musician playing big gigs, or a bedroom guitarist, it doesn’t benefit any of you that there is a section of the current QC community that are feeling increasingly disengaged and disenfranchised. We’d all love this thing to be the best system out there, period, so we all have an interest in Neural listening to us and fixing the small things as well as the big stuff.

I’m 40yrs in the business and have had many of these types of units… And that’s not what I was actually saying about the prime just because I sent 2 back… For a manufacturing fault… Maybe you should check a condenser mic out and see if you don’t have an issue, great…and yes I get that all things have problems I have fractal aswell and being honest the inside of it is pretty shabby looking in spots…

Anyway you’ve certainly made yourself clear on the Qol stuff and hope you feel better now… I guess I just gave you an other opportunity to moan and groan about all this, personally I don’t care what ndsp promised I bought the QC for what it does at the time of purchase if extra things get added then grand if the don’t then grand…

I think do your homework when buying the unit and if doesn’t do what you want it to do then don’t buy it… And if you do buy it then dont come moaning and groaning…its meant to be a community here and not Friday night fight club… Or tantrum corner… If your not happy with it sell it and stick with what you enjoy more, your QOL will be better for it…

If that issue is occuring as often as you say, and you are sure it isn’t user error, then absolutely get that sent back and/or get a support request in immediately.

I’ve had two (sold my first on to a friend because I was vain enough to want a black one) and both have worked flawlessly. The only times I couldn’t get audio out of it were due to me changing routing or preset layout and forgetting to switch things over, or because I’d set a volume block/expression pedal incorrectly. In both cases I obviously worked out the issue soon after and realised my mistake.

A 50/50 failure rate is horrendous, I would have stopped using it and been kicking off a LOT if that were the case.

Don’t worry, I’m on the case with them!

I dunno why the reissue, but they seem to be upgrading the current deluxe reverb to two different models: 65 reissue and 64 vintage. So people can choose reissue vs vintage. I think that’s a cool move, the reissue maybe sounds more “modern” or something and can appeal to some. I’m most excited about these Fenders about the whole update. Next I wish they would upgrade the spring verb!

So coming up on 14 weeks and one new plug-in since the original release during the conversion phase. So maybe in 15 years will have them all. Hope I can get at least one of my 3 on order by at least 5 years or spend another $114 for one I don’t really like that much.

Did you buy random plug ins assuming they would all be available on the QC super fast? Surely their announcements have made it clear which plugins are coming to QC sooner than others

There was no schedule and certainly no disclaimer they would trickle out 1 every 8 weeks.

How many times do you need to be told, it’s your fault for getting the wrong plugin?

Official communication from Neural that came out almost certainly before you got it:

What made you think the updates would appear all in one go? No one ever said or expected that would happen.

The plugin updates were happening steadily every few weeks/months in the run up to V3. A smart person would assume they would continue at a similar rater afterwards.

Maybe this is to be expected from the person that thinks you just “get a conversion program going” when you need to do a software rewrite. :person_facepalming:

The announcement was here, one month before you bought your plugin:

If you bought it back then, there were no right and wrong plugins, but please show me where it was stated that whatever plugin you bought would be available on the QC now?

Is it just me or is every second thread on this forum nowadays ending in a “The QC / NDSP is shit - “No, they’re not” - “yes they are” - “no they’re not” discussion?
I’m missing the good old days when we discussed tips, tricks, setups, presets, etc. :-/

You keep repeating that, but it doesn’t make it any more valid. No one bragged or promised anything like that.
We all would like things to go faster, but software and hardware development takes time and doesn’t always go according to plan.

Just because you drive a car every day doesn’t mean you understand how to construct one.

Totally agree.

@Mods Can we maybe close this thread? It doesn’t seem like there is anything of value added concerning the original post.

I am here to learn from others, to help others (if I can) and so increase the fun for all of us.

I had a question about Midi Hex codes, got an answer from @derdoe the next day and it worked like a charm.
That’s why I’m here for.

For me, posts that are only there to show the finger to NDSP are a bit destroying my experience, yes. Maybe I’m too naive or need too much harmony, but for me it’s the case.
Nevertheless, I sure am not entitled or self-entitled to tell others how to use this forum. Just wanted to share my thoughts.
