Quad and Nano sound different with same capture

Hi all,

I recently came over from Helix to Cortex. Sooo much easier to dial in a usable tone. Very pleased.

Anyway, I got the Nano before the Quad (which prompted my switching), and I have pretty much my perfect Marshall JCM lead tone on it. I would like to have it on both devices, as I plan on using the Quad in the main studio, and the Nano as my portable solution. However, when I try and emulate this using the same capture on the Quad, and the same stock cab, I can’t get it to sound the same, no matter what I do. I’m guessing it’s because the cab section is actually different (2 mics, and more variations).

So is my best option to actually try and capture the Nano cortex on the Quad?

I suppose you could capture the Nano preset. As an experiment, you might also try removing the cab blocks and using an IR block. If you load the same IR file into both the QC and Nano, that removes that variable and you can see how similar they sound.

Yeah I figured I’d give that a whirl to see if it is the cab block that is the variable. I suppose the other thing I could do, if it is the cab, is make an IR of the Nano cab. One of the things I miss about the Helix is that I could transfer a cut down preset between the stomp and the rack unit. Hopefully, Neural will work out a way of sharing presets/captures between the two units in a future update. Thanks for your input!
