QC Stereo Output 1/2 is not the same volume. Help please!

Hello,

I’ve been using my QC for a long time, but since I was mostly using it at home, I didn’t notice this issue much before. Recently, I realized that when I connect it in stereo, one channel is noticeably lower than the other.

I tried swapping the XLR cables, but the issue stays on the same channel, so it doesn’t seem to be a cable problem. The strange part is that the dB meters look identical on both channels, but the sound level is clearly not the same. To make it sound balanced, I have to pan about 30% to the right, which doesn’t feel like a proper or healthy solution.

I tested this in Studio One as well. When I pan hard left and right and mute the left channel, the right channel sounds like it’s heavily padded or attenuated, even though I can’t find any pad option enabled anywhere.

Has anyone experienced something similar with QC? Any idea what could cause one output channel to sound lower even though the meters show the same level? I’d appreciate any insight.

is that the case with all presets?

Best to contact support@neuraldsp.com to get a ticket going in case it’s hardware-related and needs repair. They’ll probably run you thru a few tests and request a video of the issue

I noticed the same thing, a few days ago, after installing the latest firmware. I discovered that the left output was set 6db higher than the right (sweep down from the top of the screen to open the I/O page). I may have inadvertently changed it before doing the update or it may be a glitch related to v3. 3.1. Anyway, easily remedied and it hasn’t changed back. Might be worth checking yours.

Hi there,

I’m having the same issue. When I’m sending a stereo output to FOH they notice a 16db difference between the two signals although my QC keeps saying it’s sending a well balanced stereo signal.

Any chance you have already discovered a solution for this issue?

I have recently encountered this issue as well first with output 1/2. I then started using Output 3/4 with TRS lines instead and worked fine this last month gigging. Plugged in today and output 3 is somehow significantly hotter in my DAW (Apollo Twin X). I use the same unadjusted scene and output 4 is giving the correct values in the QC Vumeter and on my daw, however output 3 is about 12dB hotter (audible) all of a sudden - the Vumeter in the QC display both as equal -12db . Not sure if this is a software issue or hardware. Currently just running Output 3 12dB quieter now and just matching the audio levels in my DAW and FOH. There does not seem to be any tone issues though, just volume.

Context:

  • QC is on a pedalboard and is plugged into a junction box, so no constant plugging in and out of the QC.
  • Powered properly with a Cioks DC7
  • Tested multiple cables, and made/resistance matched both new TRS cables.

Have any of you had any resolution other than getting the hardware repaired - mine is unfortunately out of warranty.
