Poweramp + Backup Strategy

Hey folks, while i was reading a backup strategy thread here in the forum i thought about one myself.
At the moment i’m happy with only the QC and the PA at gigs. In the future i want to use my 4x12 more because my other guitarist does. I can’t force him to go digitally, so i have to create a fix for that “stage umpf”

I wondered if anyone has tried the QC with for example an Amp1 Iridium or something similar? I wonder if the FX Loop in that unit is “good enough” for the QC? (does it matter at all?)
It would be a great addition to the QC, as it could also be used standalone as a backup if something happens to the QC (pls dont).

I’d love to hear your experiences with that topic and maybe some suggestions.
I know there’s the Seymour Duncan Power Stage, but this will only function as a power amp - so it wouldn’t be a backup.

If you want a backup I’d suggest the Blackstar Amped series. They have a setting for it to work as a clean power amp for modelers. The Amp1 stuff is ok, but not really optimized for a modeler to run into the effects return (sounds a little weird to me). I had gotten an Amp1 as a possible power amp or amp in general. It was ok, but dedicated power amps for modelers sounded better. I tried tons of options before settling with a QC and SD Powerstage.

For what it’s worth, my backup amp setup (if the QC/Powerstage setup went down) is an HX Stomp and EHX Magnum 44 since they’re so small.

The Blackstar Amped 1 sounds promising with the Linear Setting! Thanks for mention this.

I think i will try a SD and the blackstar thing in comparison to decide weither i’m going with one or another. An HX Stomp would be also a great backup since it has fx in it.

No problem! Another possible option could be the Quilter Labs Tone Block 202 200-watt Head. That could also function as a backup head. I think it might be single channel, but it does have a flat response option for modelers.

Blackstar Amped1 user here too, it works fabulously with the QC, some amps respond well to the power amp emulation being on… there are lots of other tricks up it’s sleeve too.

Great to hear! I might get it used here in germany for less money than a used SD Powerstage 170. so i‘ll try that one - looks quite good as well. An those wattage modes are habdy for playing at home through cabs just for fun!

Hi Mate
I use the Palmer Mach 402 power amp in stereo. Gives me a hug sound and could drown out any drummer. It’s also very cheap.
A backup of a backup would be the Bluguitar stuff. I have the original classic Amp 1 and it works well.
I personally can’t stand the sound of modlers through PA’s without an amp behind to add dimension. It’s like having a magnificent willy, but it’s 2D!

Powerstage 200 user here. I use it with a 2x12" Celestion V30 cab and it sounds great if you are chasing the “amp in the room” sound.
