Sooo i had the first gig with the QC and it was great!
I play in a Whitesnake Tribute Band and i use the QC every rehearsal, so i’m pretty familiar with the functionality but wasn’t that experienced with how to tweak the sound to sound good live on stage!
My setup was pretty basic: QC - Seymour Duncan Powerstage - Marshall 4x12
I created 2 Presets, one for Mono one for stereo (just to have both in case the FOH wants something specific).
The FOH guy wanted to have the signal from the cabinet mic first, but i wanted to use the direct out from the qc (cause i knew how it sounded through the pa and didn’t want to ruin it through shitty mic placements haha)
I played the first chord and the FOH guy immediately smiled - so that’s a good sign right?
The Sound either if it was from the cabinet powered by the PS170, through the PA or the monitoring wedge, was brilliant! Never had such a good sound live and especially so little to nothing tweaking with the FOH.
So this is just a little thank you to neural for making a device which is not overwhelmingly complicated, easy to use but versatile and has SUCH good sounding options. I’m more than happy with the unit as it is for my needs and welcome every future changes for it.
(also it was great just to come to a show with a small case instead of my other guitarist with a full car of stuff )
Congratulations, aoloso! Glad the QC is workin for you. I’m really happy with my QC, too. Although it’s not operationally perfect, I’m more happy with my tone(s) than with any other rig I’ve owned.
Did the Seymour Duncan power block feel as good as a tube amp’s return fx input which is what I use and a real guitar cab or you haven’t tried an amps return input? Thx either way. Cheers.
I only played the QC through my SL2555 Marshall fx return several times, but IMO the feel and sound were better with the Seymour Duncan Power Stage.
It was like it sounds and feels more as you expect it to sound and feel.
I think through the Marshall it felt more muddy/not as tight. But could be a shitty fx return on that amp for sure.
Oh ok. I’ve tried it with different amps and each one makes the quad sound different. The cheapest amp head sounds the best. Ok well good to know. Thx for replying. I appreciate it.
Great feedback, thanks for sharing! I am contemplating making the switch for my live sound from a tube amp set up with DI out to QC. But I was thinking of going QC only with IEMs to monitor my sound. Wondering why you chose to bring a power amp and cabinet to the show? I struggle with this question because I know that a guitar sound coming from a cabinet is glorious, but in this day and age the PA sits proud in the mix. I feel like the back line is lost to the audience. Thoughts?
Good question!
I mainly did bring the poweramp+cab because my other guitarist plays completely analog.
He doesn‘t want to play with IEM and completely over PA. So i did the cab+poweramp thing for an balanced stage sound. But on bigger shows i‘ll only bring my QC and use it with our IEM Monitoring.
So just do what works for your needs!
Tbh i did not hear my cabinet sound at all because it was sooooo quiet compared to the pa
