OS 3.3.0 gain question/problem

I installed the new update today and whenever I use the new factory amp captures, they are super gainy. I don’t think it’s supposed to be this way.

For example if I pick one of the new EVH captures like “EV101IIIS EL34 1”, it sounds like there is a metal zone pedal with everything on 10 in front of the amp. The driftwood captures are even worse. It seems like all of the high gain amp captures are doing this. I am only using the amp block and the cab block and I have made sure the input level etc is correct and I am not clipping any inputs.

I even tried setting the input gain to -12 and its still way too much gain. I love high gain amps, but I dont think they are supposed to sound like this. With my guitar’s volume knob turned down to 1 it still has as much gain as my real 5153 blue channel with the gain on 10.

So my question, is there something I need to do after the update that I missed? I really dont think they are supposed to be this way.

EDIT: even the 58 deluxe is dirty. I feel like at least a few of those should be clean. Ive been through the inputs/outputs like 10 times… If I find a solution I will post it.

EDIT2: I did find a capture of the new 58 deluxe that was more or less clean. The old captures all sound fine. So unless there is something I am missing I have to assume they are intentional. I have no idea why they would do this, especially right now, but it is what it is.

You will want to look at a description of the capture in Cortex Cloud. A lot of captures are made with pedals, and will be noted in the description, but you can only see it in Cortex Cloud.

These are the new factory captures that came with the update.

Yes, that’s what I’m referring to. Check the Cortex Cloud for the description of the capture. Here’s an example. You can see a drive pedal was used in the capture itself, so it will have more gain this (likely). Some of the captures have drive pedals used in front of the amp, some don’t. The only way to know is check the description in Cortex Cloud

OK Thanks!

I was concerned that something was wrong because they sound so bad, but I have already downloaded a few V2 captures from users that sound great so it’s just a personal taste problem it seems.

I came across the same thing with the Fryed Pit Bull (Fryette Pittbull 50CL) V2 captures. Several of them had a pedal baked into the capture. I found the ones that don’t have that and they sound awesome. Very close to what I remember of the 100CL model I used to have.

yeah, these are all mostly SUPERhot- and not going to be to everyone’s taste. I think this batch was more to show what kind of ridiculous extremes V2 can handle; many seem way over the top or almost ‘crappy,’ but sometimes you need a crappy tone I guess.

Yes, way too much gain!
