Nano cortex or not?

Hello. I’m sure this may be a super common question. I’ve recently sold by pedalboard to go for a cortex of some kind. I mostly playing at home through headphones, occasionally jam. I just don’t know whether to go for the nano cortex or the quad cortex. The price difference is really appealing. I’m just looking for advice really. I mostly also play through headphones. Is a nano cortex and a midi controller going to get me most of the way there? And save the money for plug ins? Essentially is the nano and a bunch of plug ins better than a quad cortex as standard? Especially for someone who would mostly play at home and cycle through 5-6 key sounds

Hi, if you’re satisfied with a normal setup , Dist, Amp , Mod , Delay the nano is great, especially with a midi pedal. one feature I would love to have is a second capure slot, and that’s the reason I will get a QC.The quad has more of everything and is maybe to much for your needs.

The nano will definitely stay at my house . Sound quality is top notch

Hi, I had the same choice and opted for the Nano. It gives me everything I need because I only really use up to 4 sounds playing live and at home I can fiddle around with the app. The Nano is great, cheaper, smaller, lighter and the tones are the same. Hope this helps.

Hello. For home it’s ok. For shows and gigs there are problems that you can find in some posts.

I bought it as a backup for my QC. However, since I got it, I’ve been using it every day! To me, it sounds just as good as the QC. It’s a fun little pedal that could easily become a primary rig, especially if you pair it with a foot controller.

Hello, I haven’t used a QC. But if you have an IPad you can really take advantage of the Nano cortex functionality as a low latency USB compliant soundcard. Add a couple of FX for much less than the desktop versions- IMO Eventide Spring and FabFilter Timeless and Pro R IOS apps are as good as Neural DSP - then set up some virtual buttons in Loopy Pro so you can turn on/off those FX or the NC FX from a single page. I have two Boss Bluetooth controllers but I only use one of these for lopping; select next track; play/record/undo. The other one stands by. I find IPad more than fine for preset changes. Cheers Ben

I’d just like to add to this answer. I wouldn’t pair the Nano with Neural plugins as you will be doubling up on where the amp sim should sit. If you are going to use a computer anyway, for sound quality in this config I was running a Babyface Pro FS into IMac M1 into Ableton with Neural plug ins before I bought my Nano. The benefit of Nano is simplicity and great core sounds, like pick a great base and one or two great effects! Audio wise I would say the NC sound is more than adequate for live use and practice and some music listening. However, something like a Moto interface would beat it on sound specs for less dollar bux…obviously as less features. See Audio Science review if you want to be a hifi DAC nerd.
