What I’m trying to do: show the names of the presets on the unit, for the bank on screen.
What I tried: I haven’t found any MIDI or SysEx message that asks the unit for preset names, and nothing comes back on the MIDI input.
What I expected: a documented request (for example a SysEx) that returns the names for a bank or setlist.
What happens: no response, so names have to be kept in a separate list that goes stale when presets are renamed or moved.
Request: a way to read preset names over MIDI, with the format documented.
That doesn’t work via any companies midi. There’s a reason why Line 6 and Fractal have foot switches that use different connectors for their controllers that display all that info.
It does work on some units. Fractal publishes a MIDI spec for third-party devices, and with it any controller can ask the unit for preset names, scene names, and the current preset and scene over standard MIDI, no special connector needed. I’ve confirmed it on a Fractal FM3 over a plain MIDI interface. The FC footswitches use their own link, but the standard MIDI route exists as well.
That’s all I’m asking for here: a published request like that for the Quad Cortex, so third-party controllers and displays can stay in sync.
That’s great if Fractal has that working. I know Helix never had that support at all, which was confusing since their midi mapping is pretty elaborate
