Low/Medium Gain Amps

hey there!

I’m back to depending on the QC much more this year as I tackle challenging shows requiring lots of different sounds from one unit. I’m loving it!

something that would be great to have more of is a more diverse selection of clean amps in the modeler section. The reality is that the modeling tech in QC and its ability to replicate amps digitally is amazing. Captures always have their place but for someone who has to wear lots of hats spanning genre, the modeling can be much more convenient in a gig scenario.

Adding some more types of amps such as the Vibrolux which is probably coming soon via JM Plugin, the TwoRock as well, or things of that nature would be amazing. Even some of the more adventurous offerings from Amplified Nation would be awesome to see. Vintage Fenders, Bandmasters (Suhr Bella, modern equivalent), blackface Bassman’s, showman’s… I could go on… you get the point. Dr. Z Amos would be incredible too!

Doesn’t have to be rocket science or the rarest amp ever. It could even be a reissue. These amps are common in the southeastern gig space and function as great low to medium gain platforms, and I think adding more blackface amps (the tweeds are already covered in great detail, love those) would be the ticket to bring this unit to a wider market and be a true all-in-one for the gigging musician.

I saw in the Rick beato video though how much of an undertaking this is for the team and how many hats everyone is wearing, so I know it’d take some time. If it’s possible, even just 1 blackface, 1 boutique fender/vox (Dr. Z, Suhr, Amplified Nation) would be huge welcome additions and provide more options for your more low-gain players. Even a fender prosonic would be insane since that’s basically a Mesa Mark with a switchable rectifier.

I’m not picky, just something!

Wishing the team a Merry Christmas and love from across the pond!

I totally agree with you.

It seems like almost every amp has dirt even when dialing gain down and adjusting amp levels.

When I play live, I just use the pedal efx on the unit (overdrive, delay, verb, etc) and plug into a Fender amp. It sounds amazing…however going direct in the studio and using the amp and cab sims, sounds nothing like the great live tone.

Several requests for “more ____ amps” have come and gone. Need to champion one amp per request. Here’s a post from our very own Dan:

In the meantime, here are my recommendations for clean to medium gain tones:

  • US DLX 64 Vintage and 65 Reissue (Fender Deluxe Reverb '64 and '65) ← clean clean clean; overdrives stack really well in front
  • Bogna Uber Clean (Bogner Uberschall) ← surprisingly good
  • Captain 50 (Morgan SW50)
  • D-Cell H4 Ch1 Normal (Diezel VH4) ← yeah it’s a high gain amp, but this channel sounds great

If you’re a plug-in user, may I suggest:

  • Clean and Crunch amps in Plini X ← glassy tones
  • D.I. Funk Console in Cory Wong X ← if you really want to sculpt your tone, there’s nothing better
