Is this sound normal?

The hiss trailing with the note.

  1. I have no ground hum when nothing is played.
  2. Sound comes in different rooms, outlets, removed usb cable, different guitars.
  3. ground lift noise gates all device ideas have been used

I dont know but do you have a compressor? If so, see if that is the source.

You are right. Makeup gain makes things worse.

But it be nice if I can remove even more of the hiss

Check your input level/gain, it may be too low, resulting in low signal to noise ratio. Ecen worse if conmoresors and drive is involved. There are YouTube videos on this. Then turn off all devices and turn them all on from input to output, ensuring mol unity at each step, unless you are intentionally boosting.

This new trick I can’t perceive much change tho it makes sense.

But now I realize I should not increase amp OUTPUT (c15 model tested here). The output on the out block is where you want to increase volume…
