Improve Modulation (choruses, phaser, flanger)

I know there are thread from 2021 on this topic and a lot of effort done to improve… however as newly QC adopter I find the choruses, phaser and flanger so far from what i get used with Strymon Mobius.
I am not able to dig a good lush (kind of multiple voices Chorus) deep chorus for clean 80ies sounds (ala Andy Summers) or multistage phaser for funk (although I am getting better results putting the phaser block now in front of the amp block).

I am also comparing with the model and algorithm of the FM9 and they sound so much more convincing…

So the question is if there is somehow awareness and plan to get better in this area or I have really to put pedals in the loop because not happy with the tone or go back to Strymon or even worse, change modeler?

Neural have trickled out several modulation blocks over the last three years of updates, and the quality has improved over time.

  • Chief DC2W (Boss Dimension C Waza)
  • Chief CE2W (Boss CE-2 Waza)
  • Chorus 229T (TC Electronic 2290)
  • MX Flanger (MXR)
  • MX Phase 95 (MXR)
  • MX Vibe (MXR)

…And that’s just modulation effects right there. Other pedal types have been modeled too. We’re getting new blocks based on the Boss OC-2 and DOD MeatBox with CorOS 3.1.0 (releasing tomorrow as I write this).

Asking for “better effects in general” is a moving target. It would be better to create individual requests for more specific things you would want to see.

If you like your Strymon, then keep it. I keep a Boss MD-500, plus a bunch of other pedals, in the QC’s effects loop because they all do unique things the QC doesn’t.

Honestly I think the modulation models in QC sound really good. Been preferring them over my pedals and anything in the Helix. The reverbs in QC don’t quite match that of my actual pedals, but always felt the choruses, etc sounded really good. Tbh I sold my Strymon Mobius because it always sounded kinda weird to me.

Same here, I have zero issues with the modulations in the QC, especially the choruses, and I’ve been gigging (and basically using on a daily basis) an original CE-2 for the last 20 years. The CE-2W model in the QC is absolutely spot-on.

Indeed not arguing on the number of models, but on the quality of the algorithms … at least as far as I can get.

I spent a lot of time trying to reproduce the typical 80is clean sounds (which in fairness are nothing fancy but just the lush stereo choruses, phaser and flangers) but when A/B with my Strymon simply can’t get even closer, no matter placement, parameters, doubling, parallel route etc.

Probably i am spoiled with the Strymon or just incapable to use the potentials of the device (I must not be the only, though, considering all the folks adding modulations and delays pedals on the QC pedalboards)…

Indeed I am rebuilding the board and … keeping my Mobious and Timeline.

I hope maybe one day they could get closer to the quality of the Fractal or Strymon algorithms or break the barrier of profiling time-based effects.

Thanks
