Does anybody else use unpotted pickups with quad cortex?

Hey all,

I’m thinking of buying a telecaster with shawbucker pickups (unpotted). This will be the first time I’ll be using unpotted humbuckers but on the Internet there are some reviews about them being microphonic and causing this squealing sound, which will be a trouble at high volumes and gains.

On the other hand, many people also claim unpotted humbuckers have more breath and air and better dynamics. And some say if you’re not standing in front of an amp, it shouldn’t be much of a problem.

What’s more I’m gonna use it mainly for recording and don’t think I’ll need too much volume. So what do you think? Thanks!

Yeah, I’ve got a Custombucker (Gibson CS pickup) in my 80’s Charvel. At very loud volumes it likes to feedback, but at moderate levels, especially in a recording setup, I doubt you’d have a problem. In fact, you might appreciate the “liveliness” of an unpotted pickup with your digital rig.
