Ok, I‘m so confused whether or whether not the Cab Capture (e.g. made with only a power amb) is the same as an IR or not. Some say it’s different some say it’s the same.
Can somebody tell me for sure what the answer is?
Here’s what Ai gave me as definitions (it also said it’s not the same btw):
Cab Capture
Definition: A Cab Capture is a specific type of capture created using the Quad Cortex’s Neural Capture technology. It involves capturing the sonic characteristics of a physical guitar cabinet (and often the microphone and preamp used with it) to create a digital model that replicates its sound.
Impulse Response (IR)
Definition: An IR is a digital file (typically a .wav file) that represents the acoustic response of a guitar cabinet (and often a microphone) to a short input signal (impulse). It captures the frequency and time-domain characteristics of the cabinet.
Also if it’s not the same:
Is there anyone here that compared IRs with the capture of the same Cab?
In layman’s terms from Google AI: A cab capture and an IR are not the same thing, though they are related. A cab capture is a specific type of IR, but not all IRs are cab captures. IRs (Impulse Responses) are essentially audio files that record the way a system, like a speaker cabinet, reacts to a signal, while a cab capture specifically focuses on capturing the unique sound of a particular cabinet and microphone setup.
Search for cab capture here in the forum and you should find an existing thread with a link to a YouTube video comparing the two etc.
