Better transposer

My post you’re responding to has to do with another [recent] request for the same feature–this thread really did not need to be opened.

Anyway, I don’t use transpose ever and have no dog in this fight.

Transpose should always go first in the chain, there’s really no other logical placement. But calling it “transparent” just because your guitar is in tune is, at best, optimistic. And suggesting “just be in tune” as the fix feels a bit pretentious, do you honestly think users here are that basic?

Try playing clean arpeggios, especially while transposing up, it wobbles like crazy on every new note. There’s just no denying.

As for comparisons, I disagree. I own the Digitech Drop (pretty good) and have tried the EHX Pitchfork (decent). VST3 like the Hypertune is noticeably cleaner. Unfortunately the Cortex doesn’t come close to neither of them, even within a two-semitone range.

I don’t understand the resistance to improving the transposer. If you don’t need it, fine, but why push back against something others clearly do?

There’s a list of announced features that haven’t been released yet, including Drop, which might be released in the next update or in 5 years, as they say… soon.

You are misunderstanding if you think anyone is against progress and I’d be happy to see a poly transpose in addition to what we already have.

The current Transpose doesn’t suit your playing, but for distorted tones live it beats polyphonic shifters on other units with lower latency. You’re just missing the point that everyone has different needs, just like I did in not recognising how you use it.

QC transposer is very disappointing. MIne may have a glitch. But it continues to pl

ay the original note along with the pitch shifted note. Unusable. I did test a bunch of pedals and for a gig used the Boss X-S1 poly-shifter. It worked great for rock/ blues.

When you hear the original note when pitch shifting, it is usually almost entirely due to hearing the acoustic note(s) while at lower volumes. You can quickly test by using headphones. But this thread is not for your issue, this is a request for reducing the tracking/artifacts on the transpose block. If you continue to have issues with hearing the original note, please open a separate thread so your issue can be dissected/diagnosed or referred to support if needed. Thanks!

I for my part was not trying to push back, just trying to understand why something that works perfectly fine for me is considered unusable by others.

And I believe it may also be easier for NDSP, in case they are reading these requests from time to time, to fully understand the issue.

I suspect the problem could be the pitching upwards, which I never do.

Whatever, the request is fully ok of course, don’t feel obliged to justify your need, it’s as valid as anybody else’s.

It has to do mostly with the style one plays with the transposer.

People that play metal will feel artifacts the least because it’s mostly played in chunks. The majority is palm muted notes which are monophonic, plus the occasional interval block, while also being masked by distortion. You practically have just one note or djent to be transposed at a time.

Clean tones and arpeggiated chords will suffer the most with warbling because there are entire harmonies that must be held transposed while also keeping up with each new note. You can literally feel the transposer “updating” the entire chord with each played note. Not to mention the fact that it’s clean.

You can try it for yourself. Set a clean tone and slowly arpeggiate a chord openly. You’ll hear it.

Interestingly with software transposers such as the Hypertune, when you play an arpeggio you will only feel a tiny warble during the first note and then it will stabilize. It’s as if the app recognized you’re doing a chord or an arpeggio and then automatically switched “modes” to match the style.

It’s because Hypertune is a polyphonic pitch shifter

Thanks, if Hypertune is a kind of “best in class" thing, I will download a trial version and make a comparison to see if my ears are good enough. Thanks for the info!

Boss seemed to have nailed it with the Xs1/100 let the AI go crazy on it lol

Hypertune sounds great, but is very limited as a plugin with no hardware home. The main use for this feature has to be playing live. It would be great to release as an Archetype we could use in the QC:-)
