I cant get the lead channel from the Archetype Petrucci to behave properly when I move to the 7th string, because the notes immediately drop dead when I pick them. It sounds like the speaker is completely blown out, or the British setting on an 1176 at maximum compression, there’s no actual tone that sustains.
You’d think this could be because of the frequency of the note, that the lower notes trigger an over-compression of the input, something like that, but the E, F, F#, etc on the 6th string sound full and crisp as expected, while the same notes on the 7th string dont sound at all.
Things like this might be caused by a bad/cheap 7-string pickup, that isnt stable on that lowest string, but I’m using DiMarzio John Petrucci signature Dreamcatcher and Rainmaker pickups, the same as John uses himself. So I tried another guitar, one with DiMarzio D-Activators, designed to compete against the EMG 707s and alike, which also is nót a weak pickpup that gets sloppy in the low-end…
The fact that the same effect is present on both guitars, more or less eliminates a dead string (especially considering that I changed strings, on both, two days ago). I tried every knob from 0 to 100 to see if any of them has any effect on this behavior, but that isnt the case, the issue persist through the full rotation of every knob. All other equipment in the chain has been checked by turning it off, or replacing it, from the audio interface, through every plugin, back through the audio interface and up to the speakers, but everything functions as expected. And when I do the exact same thing with another NeuralDSP amp, I cant replicate the problem. Even the Gojira, Granopyre and NTS cant be provoked to ‘blow’ that hard to show this behavior, no matter how much I pushed everything I could, I keep getting clear tones from the 7th string of both guitars.
Since it had been a while since I last used the Petrucci, I thought it might be the X-update, so I tested this on the original Archetype Petrucci and that one show the exact same problem. Could it be the plugin itself, as a whole? Doesnt seem likely, because the other 3 channels work fine and produce a nice clear, steady, crisp sound for the 7th string, so it’s purely the lead channel.
Anyone else who noticed this behavior? Anyone who knows something I can try to solve this?
