Archetype: John Mayer X

If they can keep the QC relevant, it’s worth continuing to pump out new units. Think of the decrease in cost to the hardware…

But, you’re not wrong - a v2 would be great… but that wouldn’t solve the problem of the ten or so plugins still waiting for PCOM. They’d likely just have two platforms with people complaining about them.

This is cool, but in Logic Pro X a lot of the lows sound… ummmm terrible? I’m sure it’s an install issue on my end but yikes, they all sound muddy; not like the ads at all. Clearly others are getting it to work, so I guess I have to figure out what I’ve done wrong in my setup…

I think this is a great start to NDSP being a bit more far-reaching, beyond just metal. I’m still waiting for NDSP to do a plugin that is centered around the acoustic guitar. I’m not sure why ‘Archetype: Mike Dawes’ is not on their radar, or Jon Gomm or Tommy Emmanuel…

While not necessarily plugin-specific, I think the QC could benefit from getting more attention paid to vocals as well. Even if only as some basic preprocessing on my mic before it goes to the board, or all the way to the entire chain. It’s got the I/O, and if I’m gonna sing even just backups, why not?

Don’t know your level of experience with recording and mixing, nor what you’re hearing on your end, but:

Plug-in release with presets ≠ fully mixed audio

It will probably take extra EQ shaping and some compression to get usable sounds, especially to tame the low end. Try pulling down some low and low mids with the EQ section of the plug-in. The plug-in also has a Distressor-style compressor, which is cool, but it doesn’t include any of the attack/release/ratio controls.

When I’m mixing in Logic I typically leave my guitar plug-ins to just amp and cab, and do EQ and compression with other plug-ins in the signal chain (FabFilter, Korneff Audio, Universal Audio, etc.). More flexibility that way.

The guitars the player… the way you play and how you attack the strings will all make a difference… the amps to me and the way I play and what I like they are dead on the money. There not bassy and flabby nor dull sounding :grin:I done v2 caps already of the amps just to have on QC and they sound identical… the smooth amp and the 83 are my favourites… never mind the John mayer part behind it… I also think neural have done some great stuff of late and I think they up’d the game there modelling lately and capture tech v2 feels more responsive to me.. And more natural

All is well and going in the right direction, will I buy the plugin probably but not at that price hopefully next 50% off

QC already has harmonic tremolo, and just got an updated spring reverb block. We’ve got everything we need to replicate what the Gravity Tank does.

I certainly hope the compatible plugins come to the QC soon, but watching this, I guess I didn’t realize how somewhat small Neural actually is! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YL8pwF7Mnc&t=372s

AWESOME!! Yet ANOTHER plugin to wait for! I can’t WAIT to buy it so I can’t use it!!!

The big thing with physical hardware currently is the rising production cost partly because of the RAM shortage driving up the price of memory (including memory for the system storage). Realistically any sort of QC V2 will be more expensive to make, and who knows if the price of the current one would have to also be more expensive.

Curious to see if Line 6 will keep their prices the same or need to adjust them as well

Had a lot of fun with it !

I feel like if they port this to QC, it will definitely sway people away from the Helix Stadium and boost sales. A couple of my buddies who, despite liking how my digital rigs have sounded over the years, have always been against it are now finally considering getting a Quad Cortex because of this.

I wouldn’t put a down payment on a QC until it’s out. It could be a year or more before we see it.

There’s been great updates of late, but we also see them 3-4 months apart. History suggests that we won’t see the five PCOM-in-waiting drop all at once.

Possible. I’m hopeful more PCOM comes a little more quickly since we’re now entering an era of plugins being built and initially released on the X platform (Misha and Mayer) whereas previously all the older plugins needed to be first put on the X platform. But who knows. Neural is always changing how they do things.

I hope so. I feel like this whole plugin situation hasn’t been great for their credibility… IMHO, it would do them a lot of good to get the plugins sorted before dropping new hardware… but that’s going to depend on a lot of factors that I will loudly exclaim I know absolutely nothing about. lol

I’m completely new to this forum, and any product of Neural DSP, however I immediately downloaded the John Mayer plugin and think it’s incredible. Want to buy the Quad Cortex when they release the plugin on it. I hope you’re right that the fact JM is involved can prioritise its development on QC by Neural DSP :crossed_fingers:

Another 200 bucks - business model plugins.
First buy a unit for 1700 bucks, then pay extra for a lot of other stuff and wait your ass off for updates and improvements on the device itself…

Neural said from the beginning that any use of compatible plugins would still require a purchased license for the plugin so if you didn’t want to pay extra for plugins to eventually use on the QC, then there has been no extra “other stuff” you’ve had to buy. BUT… it has certainly taken way longer then anyone expected for Neural to provide significant and frequent expansion of the set of amps, cabs, and effects on the QC.

Thankfully it wasn’t “Music is like a salad bar — you’re chances of getting e.coli are significantly increased.”

Obviously, every dumble sounds and reacts a bit differently from another, so I welcome the arrival of the JM’s dumble (beside his whole rig) and hope it will be available for QC rather… SOONER!!
