The link below is to a video about the dedicated MIDI controller I have built for driving the Tone King plugin. This was a deliberately simple and low-budget design but it has worked out quite well. Especially useful if you do not have a touchscreen laptop.
As long as the terms ‘Arduino’ and ‘soldering iron’ are not a complete mystery to you then something along similar lines would be a fairly simple project to build.
Great Job!! I think it’s a smart approach to just focus on one amp. I like the compact layout of the control head, and a simple floor pedal set up to switch the tones, you can always rearrange the order in the menu. Thats defiantly one plugin that has so many avenues you can configure it to be.
Thanks Adam. I looked at some commercial products and was baffled by how you program them. That was part of the incentive to build my own. Choosing the Tone King was partly done because this layout of the controls was practical to build and matched the amp/ pedals layout quite well.
I mapped this box to operate the Soldano 14 day trial as an experiment and that worked OK. A different layout for the controls would better for it though. I was planning on doing the same for the Cory Wong but with over 150 controls I started losing the will to live quite early on That would be a more tricky layout to get right.
Kitwn,
I feel your pain…lol. Years ago I attempted mapping the line 6 pod farm to the Behinger FCB1010. Well lets just agree it was fun… but not doing that again. All these Neural plugins have so much packed into them individually to highlight each amp’s character.
Thanks Adam, I’m not good at keeping track of repetitive tasks, the grey cells drift off into lala land fairly quickly! ‘Organised’ is not a word that fits me well.
I knew I’d have to manage the mappings carefully to avoid total chaos. I used an Excel spreadsheet to list every control in the order it appears on the plugin’s own MIDI mappings page dropdown menu and allocated MIDI codes in the same order. Laboriously writing each mapping into the plugin then became a logical process rather than a disordered mess, and I still have the spreadsheet to tell me where everything is if I need to make changes.
Yes sir… when everything starts to blur together…well, lol… there’s always tomorrow. Thank the gods for excel that’s a great way to keep track of it all. Oh, by the way…love your Border in the opening credits, I had 14 yrs of joy with mine. Definitely more courageous than a lion!!!
