Xsonic Airstep

Has anyone any experience with xsonic airstep?
If so are they a good investment?

The cortex one is great. App still works, wireless, hacks together presets that work surprisingly well (since the nano does not support them)

Makes it a lot more full featured, imo

Thanks, I am thinking of getting one for my nano

What do you mean with the “hacks together presets”? The NC has presets, and you can recall it via MIDI with any compatible controller (through TRS MIDI or USB MIDI). What´s that thing the Airstep does that isn´t supported in the NC? Genuine question.

Sorry, I meant scenes, not presets

Ah, OK. Well, they are not really scenes, though. It´s just a row of MIDI messages that toggle on/off effects that you already have in the preset. You can do it with any MIDI controller capable of sending several CC messages. Actually, I do it with my MIDI controller. You can´t, for instance, change the effects type, nor the capture. I mean, the Airstep adds nothing which isn´t supported by the NC. But there´s something that I think no other controller is able to do: wireless pairing. If I wanted to do that with my controller, I´d need an external wireless dongle connected to the TRS input.

EDIT: I just saw that the Airstep actually CAN change drive and mod effect type. That´s certainly something no other controller can do. MIDI supposedly can´t do that, and I guess they use the same protocol that the unoficial web editor made by a mate over here.

Yeah, they hook between the app and the NC.

It connects to the NC via Bluetooth and your phone then connects to the AirStep

Yes, I have the Nano Airstep. To be clear, I’m a novice with the Nano but I find the extra foot switches really useful. It’s important that you connect the Airstep before you open the Cortex cloud app but the Airstep finds the Nano automatically. I had some connection issues initially using a mini iPad with both apps on it. It took me a while to realise the Nano was connecting to its app at startup so the Airstep couldn’t connect with it. After force quitting the Cortex cloud the problems resolved themselves. That said, you can make your Airstep settings with a USB cable (they are automatically saved) if you find the Airstep app bluetooth connection drops. It may do and it’s quite complicated to explain why. I think the Nano Airstep is a good buy and I recommend it.

Thank you that is very helpful.
New to all this stuff myself.

I just sold my Nano so I’m going to put mine up for sale soon. Works great.

Where are you based?
What price?

I don’t recommend it. It’s somehow turning the nano cortex into a stomp box pedal and nano cortex is not a multi effect, it is a capture device, a powerful one, though.

i bought the xsonic airstep and i packed it back in less than 15min. i find interesting to change between presets, not to switch on/off effects in a preset and if you want to jump between the preset of bank A1 to bank C1, you can’t. you have to change the bank first. There are work arounds, but for a chinese midi switch of 150 eur, i wasn’t keen to do any work around.

Great for Nano, just bought Airstep multi (you can update that one to be cortex model or any other one). Working fine in live situations.

yes, Airstep CTX to be exact. Works out of the box, adds 2 expression pedals to the one available on NC which has me pretty jazzed using 3 exp pedals. I still use buttons on NC to change between 4 presets, use airstep to turn on/off FX, tune, and tap tempo. Made the NC work for live use much better. Also is rechargeable with huge battery life and is wireless so you could theoretically put nano on amp and ignore it if only using one preset, or don’t need to change presets from front of stage. Very tidy.
