V2 Factory Captures too noisy to use?

Hey all. First time coming back to the forum in a while, so apologies if I duplicated any threads. I did a brief search, but didn’t find much. so…

The new Neural Capture v2 factory captures of mid and high gain amps are so noisy they’re unusable for me. Anyone else?

I first tried them in CorOS 3.3.0, and now CorOS 3.3.1. In no particular order, here’s all basic context so we don’t have to go down any rabbit holes:

  • I’m using a Quad Cortex with the latest 3.3.1 firmware.
  • I went through all the high gain models without any boost or OD block before them, using several different passive humbucker guitars, ranging from vintage to moderately high output. All of them sounded like I had the gain cranked up to infinity. This is not a problem with amp blocks and v1 captures.
  • Yes, I know some captures have boosts or overdrives in the capture themselves. I do not have any blocks in front of the v2 captures, so I’m not boosting a boosted capture.
  • I compared the v2 captures with no boost to amp blocks and v1 captures, with and without boosts in front. V2 were significantly noisier in all scenarios.
  • My input gain and impedance levels are properly set.
  • I’m using the Fortin Zuul gate as my main noise gate, and yes, I can hear the noise even through that, unless I turn it up so far that it chokes the signal. No, it’s not a problem with v1 captures or amp blocks. Yes, I toggled it off an on when I was testing everything out.
  • I’m using my QC with the factory power supply, and connected to my computer with a USB cable, which grounds the power. I know it makes more noise if the QC isn’t connected to something to send a ground signal, and this is not that issue.
  • Again, the noise is totally manageable on amp blocks and v1 captures, so it can’t be anything other than v2 captures.

Anyone else???

I did a v2 capture myself.. with the same problem .. way too noisy.. (white noise-ish hiss)
but I also find the built in amp models too noisy.. way noisier than other devices with the same amount of Gain…. I returned the unit unfortunately…

I’ve done a few now and I find them very quite no issues atal there a nice step up from version 1 captures.. Have doubled checked cables… I’ve done amps drives and comps and all have been great

I use the same cables I use for everything else, and they’re fine with amp blocks and v1 captures.

No probs just thought I’d mention it…I’ll keep an eye on my captures and see if notice anything unusual, but so far I think V2 captures are great

might be too much gain in your chain. Are you just using a capture? Or boosting the signal at all with a block, etc?

I noticed something with V2 captures too, but only on high gain captures. It’s not noise per se but rather a high-pitched resonant filtering effect after a sharp transient, like a VCF following an envelope and going “eeeeoooooouu”. I feel like it might be the neural network overcompensating for the “dynamics” feel of V2 captures. I don’t know, I’m not a software engineer so I really don’t know what’s going on, but there is something that stands out and doesn’t feel natural at all on some V2 captures.

As I mentioned above, no blocks before the capture other than the standard gate I use on every other preset. Nothing different about the chain compared to my normal usage of amp blocks or v1 captures.

Noticed the same thing on one of my high gain bass captures, going to try and capture it again since the update mentioned something about tweaks to the v2 capture process

But on the whole; I can’t believe how amazing these v2 captures are
