I leave my QC plugged into the USB jack on my computer all the time when it’s at home with me (6 days of the week).
When it’s off, the audio options on the computer revert to their non-QC settings - sound comes out my desktop speakers, audio is captured from my webcam.
But when it’s on, the audio output becomes QC USB 1+2, and the audio input for the computer is QC USB 7+8.
The bug happens when you have the QC plugged in via USB and in standby mode. The QC remains the selected device for both input and output in that state. The computer drivers definitely know the state of the QC, as Cortex Control shows the unit is sleeping.
