Tonex Cab and Quad Cortex

Yesterday, the Tonex Cab was released. Has anyone managed to try it out yet, and how does it work with the Quad Cortex? I have the Tonex Pedal at home, and I’ve also ordered the Quad Cortex. This Cab looks amazing, visually stunning, and I assume it sounds great as well because I trust the Tonex brand. I believe that the Tonex Pedal, in terms of sound, is the only real competitor to the Quad Cortex… Is it to be expected that Neural DSP might release such a good FRFR cab this year as well?

The Tonex Cab won’t be shipping until April and is only available as pre-order at this time. There are lots of super positive videos out now hosted by influencers that were lucky enough to get their hands on it ahead of time. I see it as a direct competitor with the Fender FR-12. wth a few extra features. I’m seriously considering pulling the trigger as it’s on sale during pre-order and they’re accepting Jam points which brings it in at a reasonable price point.
The only reason I’m on the fence is that I built a diy class D amp and an FR cab that sounds fantastic but lacks the other features available on the Tonex Cab, i.e. tone stack, ir loading, etc.
I have a Tonex pedal, IK keyboard and most of their software and have always been happy with IK products. YMMV.

Anybody tried it now?

If you you registered your first Tonex cab with the IK Multimedia you have Jam points that can be used for up to a 30% discount on IK Multimedia products that are over $100. Jam points are accrued at 5% of the retail price.

Yes. I’ve got the first one at my local shop.

I’m really happy with it.

Played at home and a few rehearsals.

The eq works very good for different purposes. The Amp In The Room control is also good for shaping the tone.

The possibility of charging IRs… it looks like not important for a lot of people. I understand it but, believe me: it’s better if you have it.

Different presets. Another great idea. No need to explain that. (The app works really good, too).

Irs, eq and presets makes it more expensive. Yes, but, again, it’s better to have it.

I’ve tried it with the QC, Friedman IRX and IRD, Headrush Flex Prime, Atomic 6 and Firebox, TONEX Pedal and One… I think that’s all. Well, all of them sound better with the Cab.

I’ve used Yamaha DXR10 (VERY good sounding), JBL EON 610, Headrush 108 (2 of them, in stereo, I sold them as soon as I got the Cab), and different frustrating cheap rehearsal room amps (Fender Frontman and others).

The Cab is the best by far. The headrushs, the worst (by far). Not putting the cheap rehearsal room amps here. The Yamaha is very good, but the Cab sounds very good too and have all that extras that make it better for guitar and it’s very light. And the cover of my old Peavey classic 30 fits very good.

The legs are also a plus. Everything sums in this device.

I highly recommend to try one. I think I couldn’t find anything better right now.

You had better luck than I did. I had the opportunity to try the Tonex cab for about a week and ended up staying with the Fender FR10. I tried both FR-10/12 and the FR12 had too much mud/bass for my purposes so I stayed with the FR10.

I couldn’t get the Tonex cab to sound decent with either the QC and or NC. I just couldn’t dial in the EQ to be happy with the Tonex long term but that was just me
