Tips for more realistic amp feel/tone w/ QC

i don’t turn the gain all the way up no, usually 12 o’clock or I lower it just to see what or how it will react to my playing. I do have videos but I don’t know if these can be posted on here? Let me know how I can share them.

I might try this to see if it remedies the situation but I’m getting this metal zone tone through whatever I do, I did the power stage to 2x12 cab turning off the cab block on the QC and it was the same high frequency tone. I went straight into my Yamaha HS7 monitors and it was the same thing. Happy to share videos I took if there’s a way. I did use eqs and different IRs to remove the nasty high end but the brittle tone remained. When I bought the tone packs for example from

Choptones and SinMix they do sound amazing on YouTube, when I load the captures myself the depth and tone is missing, it’s the same sound across the board - I will take the unit to the showroom today and ask them to assist me in finding out if the unit is faulty and if someone would like to have a look at a video I have, I would be very happy to share it. I don’t believe this is what this machine is capable of only.

Google drive and share the link post it here

I also did some research on speakers the HS7 may be inadequate in terms of sound projection compared to an Adam A7V maybe?

Have you taken a look at the back of the hs7 and tested music though them there is some tunning on them that might help… also your phone recording is not a great way for us to really get the most best clear picture but there’s plenty of low end and it is waspi on the highs..

It also could be a sound that actually doesn’t sound good to you fullstop.. Is that a factory preset i’ll l try it out later and see what I think… the Adams probably won’t make any difference in this scenerio… I would suggest you get some sort of floor wedge stage monitor powered and ditch using studio monitors cause all my sounds, sound bad bad to me through mine too, but don’t in my powered p.a speakers..

I use two presonus air10s and they work great to me…you can look at powered frfr cabs powered p.aspeakers like what I use I also use a set of old peavey 12” p.aspeakers that are abit nicer sounding and warmer than the presonus… and they work great and don’t sound fizzy waspi….

Thank you Dave, we did try this with the TONEX Cab the FRFR one, thats back in the shop now. Yes i did play with the knobs at the back (dB)

Just FYI i have used the Yamaha with the scarlet focusrite, I used synths from Roland, Oberheim, Sequential, even VST instruments, i did manage to get good low end, great dynamics from the analoue synths. The Speakers are amazing for this sort of thing. For High gain metal or like realistic breakup cleans i havent gotten the tones we hear on neural DSP (using custom presets, captures and IRs)

Ive been looking at some videos of these amp modellers, live and in the studio, there always seems to be some sort of Pre amp or Rack style audio interface coupled with the device.

Or it could be the case where i am Tone deaf. I just dont see how i can get real amps to sound the way they should utilized boost pedals, using specific tubes, using warmer speakers like the creamback as opposed to V30 for example, Opening the cabinet back or closing it, i do these things with my real amps and cabs. for example if you compare a H-75 to a V30 you can hear the difference between both, so maybe youre right i dont like the sound but what are these sounds on youtube and on neural DSPs official page? the archtype etc all these sounds are apparently through computer speakers only while the guitar is going through an audio interface and DAW.

I remember in 2000, i bought the RP2000 from Digitech, i did manage to get it to sound good through a 100 w crate amp, it was similar to Machine heads rhythm tone.

Maybe youre right i simply dont like the sound of what im hearing but i like all the demos online and whats officially being shown.

I will look at some options i was thinking about the Adams but if you say they wont make a difference (on paper they seem to make a difference) but reality is something else.

It’s hard to say what the issue is I did try that preset and I’d agree it doesn’t sound very good… I had to remove a lot of treble out of it to get it sounding somewhat better.. Unfortunately my sound/presets will be very different sound and style to yours, but I don’t have the same issue…. If your not happy and you’ve just bought the QC might be a good idea to return it…

Or if you think the Adams will make the difference then you should do what you think is best

It isn’t really like that here I mean I don’t think they’ll take it back and give me my money. I would have to sell it if I went that route. There is also the issue with the downloaded and custom presets that sound horrible and not like what was advertised. I’ll either keep it or sell the unit I guess I may not be sold on this idea. It’s nice to play the guitar and make some changes to sound not sit for hours struggling to find the tone and I am confident it is something linked to how I’m setting things up not the unit - I’ll be back with an update when I get some money for those speakers

Ye it’s very difficult to say what is going on… I get very good tones going into just the p.a and set up my sounds that way… I don’t have any extra power amps barn the p.a amp and it just works. Hope it works out for you and you get it were your happy…

Just noodling so don’t expect greatness haha… but personally through studio monitors you really have to dial in your tone… I don’t like the QC through my own studio monitors either in a mix if sounds fine but isolated nah… https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xiqqZZHZgrziBDSbP0IE5INtkIcgcSYy/view?usp=drivesdk

Hi Dave, very nice tone, something I would like to play with using an ambient reverb. I feel there is tone in this to my ears and feeling. Maybe a new set of monitors and a good sit down is what I need. Do you think I need to change my audio interface and add a pre amp (physical or VST) to get those heavy tones?

Hello jack… I think what you hear from other people playing is different to what you hear when your playing through speakers your saying nice tone… but I don’t like the sound back through my monitors either… you gotta remember your playing through a simulation of a mic’ed cabinet it will never sound like an amp in the room especially going through studio monitors… I had the same problem when I first got it aswell… our minds play funny tricks… I was using an audient evo 8 interface very cheap and just running straight in to it from the QC..

Also I play online a lot with musicians from around the world and guys using fractal gear and we go to each other your sound is great what are you using amp wise… we then go through our setups and copy what we’re using and the end result is nearly identical between both units but I usually don’t like his sound when I play the same setup and he doesn’t mine either when he is playing it … keep plugging away youl get your sound eventually

Yes Dave I think the ears need time to get accustomed to the new frequencies and also the digital aspect of all of this. I will get those newer monitors and see how I can supplement the sound and post the results here properly - I really appreciate you taking some Time to look into this and for being so polite and patient. I’ll get these tones I’m sure.

I hope we can also keep in touch
