Small monitoring ideas?

Hey everyone, I have been using my QC to practice, rehearse with the band and plan to gig with it as well.

At home I am using my studio monitors and at rehearsal going into a strip and eqing it for guitar.

Without going to a 1x12 or 2x12 FRFR I’d like to have some sort of small personal monitoring. Like small enough to clamp on to a mic stand. As I find that it is way to hard for me to get my mix in the wedges for soloing and enjoying to hear what I’m doing without killing everyone else.

Anyone play with a small acoustic amp or something like that, that could clamp to a mic stand?

Roland CM30 comes to mind. Seen people mount them on stands, giving in your face monitoring. But not sure how it would pair with the QC.

Can you use a 1x12 real guitar cab? I was watching a major pro he uses fractal and the quad and I could see he has what looks like a 2x12 of some sort etc. I think marshal cab. And I’m sure he’s also going to foh.

Headrush FRFR108.

I picked up a used one for $200 CAD. Works fine for rehearsal with a large band and drummer.

Used it live twice with the same band, no issues except…it is so small that if the stage is small, and the frfr is on the floor behind you, like an amp, it will fire into you ankles. You need to get it on something waist height.

Served as an onstage sound source and in a blend with the FOH sending the QC into the main stage speakers too.

Ive seen cab stands that angles the cab in a 45degree angle upwards… the work very well for small combo amps, and should do the trick for small cabs/FRFR also. This way, you can still have it behind you, and get the sound towards your ears

Thanks Michael,

I did look at those. I’m surprised that the wedge design wouldn’t throw the sound better even on a smaller stage. How did you get your signal to the FOH? Through the connections on the cabinet or QC?

Geoff

Thanks for the info. I know Peavey and Fender makes something like that.

The stage was packed. The frfr was basically 20 cms/ half a foot from my ankles. Let’s just say 7 players in stage sometimes leads to compromised space.

I take the second xlr out to FOH. I did the same with the Helix. Works like a charm, never had an issue whether it was this tiny stage/place or a much larger room/stage.

I use a Fender Champion 20, very inexpensive used. I go direct to the amp from QC and find the cleanest tone on the Champion. Sits under my desk and great for when I get headphone fatigue but don’t want to drive everyone else in the house crazy!

I found that Genelec 8010s make for some nice „open headphone“ personal monitors (or 8020/8030 if you need to cover more distance/need more db). They have a strong housing and a grill, so they’re very sturdy. They already come with standard threads, so a regular microphone stand works fine. I usually cut the lows a bit, to give them room to breath. BTW: they are from Finland, too
