Hi everyone,
I have been a tube amp player all my life but the convenience of a quad and a power amp is very appealing!
If any of you have a setup with the quad , a power amp and a cab i’d bé very grateful to have your 2 cents on which one suits the quad better.
I can get a used gt1600fx at a good price and would play it through a 2x12 75w creambacks in it. Could it bé too powerfull for my speakers?
Thanks a lot for your help, i’m a complete noob on this PA stuff.
Having the extra wattage for solid state is good, especially for the low end response/headroom. With solid state it isn’t putting out that full wattage if it isn’t turned all the way up. Just like with any amp, don’t turn it all the way up if you don’t have to.
Also depending on the cab wattage, the amp won’t actually be 800 watts per side. With solid state the actual wattage may be less if they rated the power at 4ohms. Usually with solid state it’s half the power when you change the ohms (from 4 or 8, and then half it again from 8 to 16).

Hi.
I use a Palmer Macht 402 and a 160hm Canlas 4*12 cabinet.
400w mono in 4ohm .bridges or 200w/200w 8ohm using only one half of the stéréo amp
This is a 1U Flat power amp, powerfull , with résonnance/presense knob.
Very satisfied with it.
I put it un a 3U Flight case with a 2U drawer for câbles and bourbon bottle…
Thanks for the infos.
I think i’ll go with the matrix gt1600fx . The matrix seems to be one of the standard for SS amps.
And even at 16ohms should have plenty of loudness.
I’m using a pair of acoustic guitar amps as monitors. I found that they have the best sound for these after trying several FRFR/ PA cabinets. I’m using the Fender SFX2 amps. Sound as good as my studio monitors but they have that punch that comes from a guitar amp that is missing when you use a FRFR or pa speaker setup.
Just finished building a 2x10 stereo cab with acoustic GAMMA True Blue TB10G guitar speakers powered by a stereo class-d amp board (30 wattx2)). Small cab with a huge sound. It is my favorite by far and works well with impulse responses or not.
Highly recommend these speakers. This is the fourth fr cab for me. As well as alto powered speakers, studio monitors and power amps with cabs.
I am using a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170 to drive a Matchless 212 cab for stage volume. Still sending outputs 1/2 to FOH but output 3 goes to the Powerstage, and then I run a long speaker cable from the Powerstage to my Matchless Cab. Just have a row with your amp and no IR/Cab block and it works great
