Quad Cortex Issue?

Hi All

Got bored and thought id download the plugin version of Gojira X (have it on my quad cortex so never downloaded the plugin to my computer)

Ive noticed that the plugin presets sound vastly different to my quad cortex. Here’s a sample Sound Sample

That’s using the Andrew Baena Heavy 8 string rhythm preset with no changes made to either preset. The first is the cortex and the second is the plugin. the plugin sounds way more powerful.

My chain is cortex > 2i2 > cubase with no post processes on either clip. Has any one else came across anything similar? Im beginning to think something might be wrong with my quad cortex

Also the global eq etc on the cortex isn’t enabled

Could be gain-staging related. What is your input setting on the Scarlett and what is it on your QC?

and what is the input gain setting in the plugin (on the upper left) and the gain setting of the track in cubase

Honestly the input level of your interface and the QC must be different. The 2i2 could be running the signal hotter, even if it’s set at zero. It’s totally different preamps, probably with different sensitivity.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if the Scarlett is distorting the DI sound a little. Cheaper preamps like that do color the sound a decent amount. That sort of thing could be making the DI also sound more aggressive if it has a little extra saturation/distortion from the cheap preamp. Which in this scenario might be what you prefer
