Hello , I’m using the Quad Cortex connected to my Marshall JCM 800 through the FX loop, using the 4-cable method. Everything works fine, but I’m getting quite a lot of noise. I found that the noise is coming from the Cortex Out 3, which goes into the Marshall’s return. Is this normal, and how can I eliminate or reduce it? Thank you.
have you reduced the Send level from inside its block?
Do you get noise if you use other types of pedals in the effects loop of your JCM 800? Just checking to make sure the amp’s effects loop itself isn’t the problem.
Hi @xush, OP might not be using the FX loop in the QC…
Remember that output 3, 4 are TRS (balanced outputs), and the connections to the amp are TS (unbalanced)
I used a TRS to TS cable when I was using the 4 cable method in this way. I don’t recall alot of noise, but it did clear up my signal coming out a bit thus allowing to adjust the output down some if IRC. This could help maybe?
I used the 4 cable method with my JVM410h. I’ve not played that way in a long time. I made my own cable from a schematic for a “Humbuster” cable
I needed/used a homemade cable with the same design when running 4CM with my 5150 and it worked perfectly. I’ve also own and use an Ebtech HUM eliminator without any issues.
The JCM FX loop is working properly. I searched online and found that Humbuster cables can be used with 4-cable method setups. That type of cable should reduce noise. I normally use only high-quality cables like Mogami and Reference. The noise isn’t very loud, but it’s unnecessary
