Input Level and Input Gain

Hi

I’ve not long had my Quad Cortex and am using it to record onto a pc via a SSL 2 interface.

Looking at input one to get the meter to go anywhere near a reasonable level i’m having to put the input gain knob up about 20 or even 30 db.

I’ve looked at the videos and mot people are adding maybe up to 5 db and that’s fine.

So, why am I having to add so much gain for the input.

I’ve tried different guitar leads and also with a Strat’ Tele’ and my Les paul.

It’s always the same low level input.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Whoa whoa whoa… You definitely should NOT have to bump up the input gain that high.

Let’s break this down a bit–

Are you talking about the input gain on your QC itself, or are you talking about input gain on the SSL interface? (I’m assuming you mean the latter)

Generally, what amp sounds and settings are you trying to get out of the QC?

What is the overall output level you’re getting on the QC?

Separately, have you tried using your QC as an interface itself?

How are you connecting the QC to the SSL (XLR/TRS/TS cables)? Are you using the QC’s factory power supply? Is this happening with every preset?

Hi,

I’m in touch with Neural at the moment as it’s the input of the QC that’s very low.

Without having anything connected apart from the power supply and the guitar into input 1.

If the gain knob is zero the meter for the input (I/O menu) doesn’t even register anything.

I’m just about to make a video for the guys at neural to have a look.

Also when I power with buttons A and H pressed down it just boots like it normally does.

I was told it should take you to a reset menu
