Anyone transitioned from Fractal to QC, and why?

I use tap tempo a lot, so probably won’t swap the behavior. This is an area where Fractal excels - their foot switching options are pretty amazing, no MIDI needed. But the time-to-good-tone-at-volume with the QC killed it, I’m impressed. Now to build some acoustic/vocal presets as well as “effects only” to go into the front end of the tube amp.

I use a simple midi switch I purchased on AliExpress (the DoreMidi FC-One) to toggle the tuner on/off, works great. CC# 45 (CC# list is on page 88 of the manual), 0-64 to turn off, 65-127 to turn on.

You could also use 1 midi cable for the MIDI jumper hack (if your midi jacks aren’t in use already) and use your XP or QC footswitch/scene/stomp to turn on tuner or gig view, etc

I use the same pedal to toggle gig view..

I have both, I use both. The Axe Fx MkII Turbo stays in the studio, the QC is the unit that I use live with captures of the amps I have in the Fractal. There is not a “Dumble” sound I like in the QC so I made the capture of the one in the Axe. They are identical now.

Yes, the Axe has a lot of “extras” but I never touched any in 4 years of use. When you are rehearsing or gigging, once you have the exact same tone you like, the ease of use make the QC a winner.

First proper gig last night with the QC - it killed it. One output to my RedSound Elis.8 behind me, the other to the snake for FOH. Didn’t even both to put any guitar in the other monitors - we were at a nice volume (10 piece band), easy to hear everyone. No fizz, no harshness, soundman said it sounded great through the mains. I do need to do a few preset tweaks, as usual, at-volume I need a bit more delay and reverb mix (too dry). Easy fix as I put those on the expression pedal (just need to adjust the range). But the drive amounts and upper mid character where where I wanted them.

Now just trying to figure out a few optimal patch cables so I’m not plugging in/out of the QC directly all the time. But so far, very good playing experience.

I only just discovered that the delays aren’t at 50/50 dry/wet until the mix control is at 82.5%, I was keeping it under 50% so I wasn’t losing direct signal, huge mistake, turns out my happy place is about 67%..

I have an FM3 and a QC. I like both. I bought the FM3 because my first QC went south and I needed a reliable alternative. Unfortunately, I am now on my 3rd QC. I love the QC, but there’s just no way I would gig without a backup, and that’s where the FM3 shines. They are a proven platform and reliable. I do feel the QC sounds better. But I love the tweakability of the FM3. I’ve had great success creating tones on the FM3 and capturing them. All the modelers have their strengths and weaknesses.

Ouch that is rough. What were the issues with your various QCs?

I’ve been through maybe 4 units? I feel like I’m missing a repair or two in here as well.

First one died after a few weeks of basic studio use (only used the factory power supply). Was replaced by Sweetwater immediately because I had it for less than 3 weeks. The unit started changing settings within presets, preset names were glitching, then it wouldn’t boot and just was flashing lights. Sweetwater support tried to get me to connect the QC to my computer and access the unit through the app. The funny part was Cortex Control didn’t exist, and they were shocked the unit was just a brick with no app yet after being out for a couple years.

Second one started cutting out randomly, and then had the same boot issues as the first.

Third one did the same as the second.

Fourth started emitting loud random static sounds, also cutting out randomly.

Most people I know that tour with these have a backup ready that can be patched in immediately. I love how useful and easy it is to program, but I wouldn’t want to trust it or any modeler without a backup.
