I have an amp capture I bought that it causing intermittent popping sounds. Only when I’m not playing and there is no signal. I moved the amp capture block around to confirm (in front of reverb, left side, right side, …) and it’s definitely the cause. I mute the amp capture and there is no more popping sound. CPU of the QC sits at 74%.
Another possible reason for the pops stopping when you bypass the capture……the gain staging is completely different. Unless you’re using a similar capture in place of it when it’s bypassed.
Also what other effects do you have in the preset?
74% in a preset is pretty high–especially if you have a lot of blocks taking up the top two rows (two cores topping out at 50%). Can you share a screenshot or a photo of your preset?
(File preview doesn’t work. You have to download the video in the dropbox window that opens)
Above is a picture of the Rig I’m using and I posted a video link that shos the issue.
I’m currently sitting at 63% CPU.
1st lane I’m going out of output 3 into external drives. 2nd lane I’m coming back into input 2. I’m keeping my stereo fx retrun free for external reverbs.
This routing isn’t the issue. I took it out of the preset and popping sound still occures.
I’ve put this capture on an empty preset again and it’s doing it there now too. Completely empty preset with nothing else on but this amp capture.
Strangest thing is that even in this new blank mono preset only the right speaker is popping.
It’s not my soundcard or anything else. As soon as I bypass the capture it stops.
Funny part is I didn’t have the issue before I updated to the latest QC version. Not saying thats the reason but the issue hasn’t always been there.
When I take the quad cortex out and go straight through my pedalss into the soundcard I also don’t get any pop sounds.
EDIT: as a further test I plugged headphones into the quad cortex. Same popping in the right ear only. So definitely not my soundcard or cables.
Also this only seems to happen with V2 captures. On the same preset when I swap the V2 capture to a V1 capture I get no popping sounds.
That second preset comparison is a useful clue: I’d capture both preset exports and compare the full block chain, input/output levels, cab/IR, gate, and scene assignments—not just the amp capture name. Then try the same capture in a blank preset, with USB disconnected and at a lower output level, to separate a capture problem from routing or gain staging. A short 528 Hz reference can be a consistent listening check, but it doesn’t establish the source of the pop.
This sounds like ti might be similar to an issue I was having. I found it was only happening on a group of 4 captures, that I did at the same time (back to back) using the same settings.
I re-captured them, and have not have the issue since (so far, knock on wood).
I have written it off either as a corrupted set of captures, or that perhaps my levels on input 2 were incorrect.
I’ve been talking to the support and sent a diagnostic from the unit to them.
They say the logs indicated a hardware fault and needs to be repaired.
I only bought it 45 days ago. Hope it won’t take too long.
