We would like a Dry Kill option/selector to be able to remove the dry signal from the output, which is useful for wet/dry rigs/setups.
Why & What:
Lots of us are running a Wet/Dry/Wet setup, which have been around since the 80’s. In this setup, the dry signal without effects is sent to a separate amplifier or PA system from the wet effects so that the time-based effects (e.g., delay and reverb, chorus, flanger, etc.) don’t dampen the detail and clarity found in the clean tone of the dry signal. However, it requires that the wet effects have a Dry-Kill (or Kill-Dry) option where the outputs of the pedal are just the post-effects sound (without
the original ‘dry’ signal that went into the pedal, for 100% wet and 0% dry). This prevents phasing between the wet and dry amplification systems and allows the volume of the effects to be turned up. More information can be found here: What is Wet/Dry/Wet.
Alternatives:
There are no good alternatives to achieve the same results. The only option is to beg the developers of a given pedal to add in this option. The Quad Cortex already has adjustments per effects block to set the effect to 100% wet; however, there needs to be a global option for the whole preset to be switched to kill-dry, an option which can be turned on and off, otherwise this creates an organizational nightmare of creating duplicate presets for normal and wet/dry/wet and then
keeping each preset in sync whenever something changes. See my post on that here for further details: 100% Wet Preset Madness
How It Would Work:
A lot of major pedals from major pedal companies have already included this feature, including Chase Bliss’s newly released Onward pedal. It would be very wise if Quad Cortex added this feature. Since the effects blocks already go 100% wet, it would be trivial to add a setting that could make the whole preset go 100% wet when on and then when off go back to the original stored value.
