Hello everyone, I’m a new Nano Cortex user.
I have a question: is it possible to power it via USB 2.0? A USB A to USB C adapter will suffice?
I connected it with a USB C to USB A cable and it works, but after restarting the laptop, there’s no power.
Thanks for the reply.
Only if I use the USB-C port only for power will I get rid of the Nano Cortex as an audio interface option.
I’m just wondering if it’s normal for the Nano Cortex not to start after restarting the computer? Or is it due to the wrong type of USB port A or perhaps a bad cable?
The USB C cable connected to a modern computer will power the device, however, I have found that if you use a computer to provide power to the NC , with the computer plugged into its own power source, and you then plug the audio outputs to an amp, or any other powered output, you will likely get the dreaded ground whine that cannot be eliminated by using the ground switch on the NC. It is SUPER annoying. The only fix I’ve read about involves a special USB cable that is designed to block the ground whine. . . and NO. . . the cable that ships with the NC is not one of them.
No problems from my end. That is almost 99% sure a power distro problem starting with your laptop or your cable. For me, I use a Thunderbolt 4 cable. Overkill, yes, but I use it for recording as well so the data transmission is top notch and the power delivery is more than sufficient.
Neural’s product literature states that it can be “powered via USB-C (5V-1.5A)." Please note that a USB 2.0 cable with a type-C connector generally provides 500mA-5V. Therefore, it is not the optimal cable choice.
There’s been plenty of discussion on this forum about power supplies, and I’m an advocate for following the manual when it comes to power, no shortcuts. Therefore my two cents here: use the correct cable. And a USB 2.0 is not the correct cable for this use case.
If having an A-male USB connector is what you require then you can use a USB 3.1 type-C male to type-A male (Infinite Cables offers a 1M variant, sku USB-327-1M on their website, for $9.95 CAD). Or heck, you can Amazon to your heart’s content so long as you are paying attention the specs of the cable you purchase.
But the bottom line remains: power these devices optimally and as described in the manual. Hope this helps!
I used the included USB-C cable with a USB-A adapter and a 9V Line 6 power supply (above the recommended 600mA).
And now NC works as an interface; I can record and play music, and it’s powered separately.
If I have the opportunity, I’ll definitely use the USB-C power supply.
This seems like a great option when the computer is on.
