As I am refining my QC usage with an acoustic guitar I got hung up on something. I use a Grace Felix 2 for a preamp and a Line 6 Powercab as a monitor Using these two together works great but I wanted to add some of my QC FX. The Grace has an insert jack and from the manua it looks like I need to use a TRS Y cable, with the TRS going into the Grace insert jack and the to jacks on the Y into what? The send and receive on the QC?
Also if I do this, can I use channel 2 fo the QC bypassing all of that so that I can set up an electric guitar patch maybe from input 2?
I have been using the Grace into the QC and it sounded pretty cool. However, my acoustic guitar (which is a stereo system) sounds even better going direct. I would just like a way to insert a bit of verb and an eq and maybe other stuff without changing that direct sound.
This has been an evolution for me for sure.
Thanks everyone…
You would most likely want to plug one side of the Y cable into the Input on the QC, then the other into output 3 or 4.
You could also try plugging the input into return 1, and the output from send 1. You will just have to make sure the QC is set up to use those inputs/outputs. That would just mean you’re not going through the preamp part of the QC which may or may not sound better.
It’s called an insert cable. The tip is send and the ring is return. The other ends are usually labeled send and return. Google insert cable and your choices are many.
I have the idea of insert cable down as I am using 1/4" TRS to two 1/4" TS. TOMFS, your post is closer to what I am looking for. I tried going from the Grace TRS to Input 1 and then Output 3/4 and nothing. I also tried plugging the input into Return 1 as suggested and still nothing. Is there some internal switching I might need to be doing? At some level it seems that I am going to figure this out and t will be a big “duh!” IT should not be this complicated.
brand new insert cable was bad as it turned out.
tomfs, I am not sure what you meant by “bypassing the preamp section” of the QC and I am intrigued by this idea. So when there are no amp or preamp blocks, there is still a preamp working on in the QC? And how would I bypass it?
You need to set the inputs and outputs you want to use on the grid in the QC for each preset. Just plugging in and trying to go wont work unless you went from Input 1 to Out 3/4 (I think those are used by default on factory patches).
Also check you have the Y cable the right way round, otherwise you’ll send to the the QC output and get no audio.
“Bypassing the preamp section” - Inputs 1/2 have an actual preamp with alterable impedance and gain, whereas the Send/Return connections are just line in/outs I believe.
Depending on the pedal you are using and the Input settings, one might be better than the other for you.
Did it work after all? If yes how do you like it? For some reason I have not been able to make a similar setup work with Felix 1 and an HX Stomp.
Koshomusic, I am a few days away from a good Grace/QC set up and will post when I have it nailed. I will also try it with my HX Stomp XL and it should be about the same.
At a gig on Friday night I went Grace → input 1 QC → Line 6 Powercab +.
The only thing I had on the QC was a D 35 IR and VERB/DDL. It sounded great for sure. However, going from the Grace direct to the Powercab+ is the most amazing sound. That is what I am after and if I can just use the QC in the Grace insert and have that pristine sound plus the verb and delay, I will be pretty damn content.
