How does the powercab 212 compare to the Gemini 2? I’m debating over the two.
I think the Laneys are better than the powercab. Gemini is great but it’s super expensive for what it is.
I just bought one of these. Do you have a way to control volume at the power or do you attenuate it with the QC. Thanks.
This is a long thread so not sure if anyone else has said this, but I’ve recently switched to the Fender FR10 and I think it sounds absolutely great.
I previously had a pair of Powercab 112 +'s and at the time thought they sounded pretty great, but to my surprise the minute I tried the FR10 (I didn’t try the FR12 as I wanted something smaller) I listed my Powercabs on eBay. I much prefer the look of the FR10, and the feel and sound are just much more ‘right’ than the PC’s.
I’ve also tried the QC through a Spark Live, which is basically an FR cab/pa with a Spark amp built in, and I have to say I think the QC sounds pretty amazing through that too
I’ve been looking into Barefaced Audio’s Reallity 112FR cab. It’s a very interesting design that uses a diffracting port and adjustable rear firing tweeter in the rear to create more of a figure 8 pattern. The downside for us US folks is that, due to high shipping costs, we can’t take advantage of their 30-day return policy. I’ve been in touch with Alex at BA and he’s working on a workaround for the trial period. He’s also been very quick to respond to my questions. The Reallity is pretty pricey but the few reviews I’m finding have raved about the huge, 3D sound as well as the compact size and light weight. Their bass cabs are very well regarded by the bass community. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this FRFR cab?
These do look awesome. I’m also in the US and a little hesitant but let me know if you end up trying it. Maybe someone in the community has…
I posted the question a couple of weeks ago and never got any replies. The Barefaced Reality may just be a hidden gem. If I do decide to (gulp) take the plunge, I’ll certainly report back. At over $2k plus tax, US for a stereo active pair. I want to do my homework first. Alex told me that Sound on Sound currently has one for testing, no review yet. SOS seems to have pretty honest reviews.
Hi so in 2025 what is the best speakers for guitar and quad cortex. I have great audio phones and want similar quality when playing for the audience. And I want premium to not change it after few years. I read some positive feedback about laney lfr 112. Or GRG guitar 112A premium fr. Any better FRFR columns for QC?what would you recommend in budget around 1000 euro for single column? Or no point for amateur to spend so much money and just pick this laney for 500 euro?
A few days ago I decided to compare Headrush 108 and Yamaha DXR10. I did it with Friedman IRX and IRD. Only at home levels. I still haven’t tried with QC.
To be honest, I think the Yamaha is better. Lows are tighter, less diffuse and the higher frequencies are not as harsh; they sound cleaner. Mids also sound clearer to me. It’s not strange, as the Yamaha was almost twice the price (a few years ago). I got it when it was one of the most recommended options before the invasion of guitar FRFRs.
Not surprising. I’ve never tried the DXR10s but I’ve always liked how Yamaha voices their speakers. Our PA mains are Yamaha. I’ve been using a pair of Headrush 108s for a couple of years. They’re pretty impressive for the price but require a fair amount of EQ. Love their size and weight though.
Still not ready yet to let my 4*12 go.
Loaded with Celestion g12T875 and Eminence DV77…
Sound on stage is different from the MLD Tones IR , i use in the PA…
Blending real cab and IR make the specificity of the sound.
Never tried FRFR cab.
I could use my 1*12 Thiele loaded with Evm 12L BLS 300w, but that looks small on stage😅
At long last, the Tonex Cab I ordered months ago arrived last week. Played with it for hours and hours, against my Fender FR10, and I returned the Tonex this week as I actually prefer the Fender.
Loved the form factor and style of the Tonex, but don’t really see why I’d need to be able to load IR’s in to it. Out of the box I thought it sounded awful, really raucous - the speaker broke in a bit and it sounded better, and it sounded better when I dialled the Amp Tone control all the way to the left (Mic). But I just think the FR10 is more articulate - the Tonex seemed to have more ‘gain’ if that makes sense, so the difference between full humbucking and splitting coils, on my guitars that can do this, was less discernible, whereas with the Fender the different tonality was much more evident
I came to the same conclusion. I only had the Tonex Cab to test for a few days but in the end, I preferred the FR10 for my purposes.
