You can easily just assign a block to be engaged with a scene change and have that block be linked to the expression pedal. The other block won’t change the sound since it’s bypassed. There may be another way, but this is a very simple method to swap between two blocks that are linked to the same expression pedal. I’m not sure what the confusion is with a basic setup like that.
Linking a scene change with some outside footswitch on the expression pedal doesn’t seem like the best option with how the QC is currently configured. Just have the scene linked to a footswitch on the unit….
yes, you just assign the Bypass function to a Scene, and NOTHING else. You can’t assign the Bypass to heel/toe position, switch, or motion auto-activation (then it activates on all scenes)
If you only assign the bypass to Scenes, you basically are not activating the fx by XP at all, you are only controlling the settings via XP. Most people make the mistake of still tying the Bypass to the XP, but you can’t if you’re going to use Scenes. My preset template linked above has an example of this config
Don’t assign the XP to the block’s BYPASS funtion; only assign the Bypass to Scenes
(not that this is what Ed is looking to do, just clarifying for anyone else who might be)
You wrote “use a scene to swap what the (expression) pedal controls”.
How do you do this? Afaik, you can turn a block off with scenes so the expression changing it doesn’t matter, but you cannot actully swap which variable an expression controls.
Yeah, you have two different blocks that are controlled with the expression pedal. Use a scene to swap which block is active. Very easy when someone wants to swap between volume and Wah. Two different blocks.
I’m not proposing a scene changes what the expression pedal controls within one block.
Thank you for those who tried to help after reading the details I shared.
It’s still not working without both the volume block and wah block activating at the same time when expression 1 and expression 2 functions are assigned to activate and stop the blocks.
I want anyone hopeful for a solution that is reading this, with my same situation, to understand that in this thread there is no solution.
Using the “assign to scenes” function won’t work because it still activates both blocks at the same time as stated above. I need the wah effect to be used during a riff and not for the whole song. Switching between a distortion scene and a distortion scene with a wah block doesn’t allow me enough time to jump to the dual expression for the part in the song I’m playing.
My solution for the time being is use the auto wah block. Thankfully the one built into the Quad Cortex is good enough for me to fake it till I make it.
My last ask is that if anyone can either provide a video, FaceTime, or over the phone step-by-step consult to correct this like you think it will… I will Venmo you whatever you want for your time if it works.
Time for me to practice more and worry about this less.
I notice you have the wah assigned to XP2 but you also have it assigned to QC footswitch C. Have you tried unassigning the C switch, maybe that is conflicting with the Bypass via XP2. I know a Scene assignment will override an XP assignment.
Also, it’s possible that this is a bug and can’t be resolved without a quick-fix
First thing, a dual expression (xp) pedal cannot function like 2 separate xp pedals.
It is not clear to me, with the current QC feature set, using both expression outputs help you.
To achieve what you want you will need:
Volume block tied to xp 1.
Wah block tied to xp 1 as well. You coipf also tie it to xp 2 and use the dual outpit nut that is more cables for the same function.
Optional, volume block 2 not tied to xp.
Set up. As noted above, xp 1 will be connected to / control the volume and wah blocks.
On Scene A, the default scene, the volume block should be on, and the wah and volume 2 blocks should be off. This is your base setting without wah. Xp 1 will control the volume; it will also control the wah, but as the wah block is off, you won’t notice anything.
Then set up the wah scene,.scene B. The scene mode will toggle the on/off for both volume blocks and the wah block. The wah will now be on, so you will hear that effeft. Volume 1 will be off so xp 1 wont affect yoir volume. The volume 2 block is used if you need to set a volume level specifically for wah usage,.the block will be fixed at that desired volume. If just bypassing volume 1 works, then just dont use volume 2.
The simpler but more costly solution is to get a second xp pedal so you have one for each block.
Or do the complicated set up and get another xp anyway for another purpose - I love using an xp as a delay level / mix control.
Just been reading through and agree with the approach of having blocks active based on scene.
But, if you need to be able to turn either wah or volume on at any point, stomp mode could be worth a shot. If you can set the wah and volume as stomps in stomp mode, you will be able to toggle them on and off independently to your taste.
You could use hybrid mode to make these easier to access alongside your scenes, or perhaps get a midi pedal. I use a darkglass one in scene mode and have one button set as follows: activate stomp mode > activate wah > activate scene mode. Doing something like that may help to make it quicker in changes for you?
my understanding is he doesn’t want to use Scene Assignments for Bypass because of the extra tapdancing required. Using the XP2 via the Lehle (if it’s set up to function as a SWITCH) for toggling the Bypass should work fine NORMALLY. However, there is apparently a bug/glitch in the UI presently so that may be accounting for the troubles.
My previous board had both a volume and wah. The goal was to shrink down even more this time. This size is perfect for me now and easier to carry.
Please see my previous posts where I’ve tried this, and you can see in the screenshot where I was using hybrid mode with scenes and stomp mode.
Your understanding is correct and I appreciate your consistency of reading and understanding my previous posts sharing what I’ve done so far and what I’m trying to accomplish. Maybe a future update will help solve this issue, at least I hope. In the meantime my Venmo offer still stands for a work around right now.
If the xp 2 / toggle switch works with the QC, then you can use the method i suggested. Exp 2 would be tied to the volume 1 block (starts on), wah (starts off) and if you need it, the volume 2 block to set the ideal volume for the wah (starts off). Exp 1 would remain tied to both volume 1 and wah.
Also, you have stomps set for both the volume and wah. Assign the volume (starts on) and wah (starts off) to one stomp so when you use the stomp,.it swithches the blocks. You can add in the 2nd volume block as needed. This should function the same as using the xp 2 on the Lehle.
If any of my solutions work, donate to your local Habitat for Humanity or other nonprofit affordable housing developer.
I did try the two block effects on one stomp. It didn’t work. The reason has to do with the exp 1 and 2 not wanting to function together or against each other for each block (volume and wah). Having them alternate like you could for two different amps for example, would be fantastic.
I like that idea of donating instead! Which I’d gladly do if I can get a solution before Neural gives us an update to make this work! Aside from one response here to me from a Lehle account, surprisingly there is no in house Neural wizard that speaks up in these situations with a definitive solution. No response from Neural probably means no solution?
It should work as long as xp 2 click is recognized by the qc. Make sure that the on/off for the volume and wah are not tied to a scene, as a variable cannot be controlled bu a scene and exp at the same time. I use stomps to alternate between multilpe blocks (amps, delays, reverbs) it shouldnt matter.
You may wany to try this starting with a new clean preset to test the theory and without other settings getting in the way.
Did Neural ever get you a solution? I have the same problem with 2 other models of pedal, and have clearly demonstrated it to support, but now they are failing to respond to me.
