Hi! I recently got a Quad Cortex and thoroughly enjoy it. To make the most out of it, I purchased a Lehle Dual Expression pedal. The issue I’m having is that the QC is showing the calibration at 100% when the Lehle is physically only around 70% of the way to the toe position.
I’ve made sure all firmware is up to date. So far I’ve tried:
2 different expression pedals (same issue with both pedals)
3 different TRS cables
Tried Exp1 and Exp2 inputs on the QC
Recalibrated dozens of times in the QC
Used 10k and 50k outputs on the Lehle
I’ve reset the Lehle
I’ve reset the global settings on the QC
I’ve reached out to Lehle support - They show no issues with the Lehle, and their Verwalter confirms it.
The only other expression capable pedal I have is the Dr. Scientist Elements (for the mix control) and it appears to be working fine with that.
All signs seem to be pointing to a QC issue, and Lehle feels the same. Anything I could be doing differently, overlooking, etc.? Since I’m still new to the QC I figured I’d ask here first before reaching out directly to Support. Thanks!
Thanks, I did see that one. It seems like it had more to do with the Lehle activating the switch option. I’m not using the switch, so it is more about the sweep of the pedal from heel to toe, and the QC registering it from 0-100% when the Lehle has only gone 0-70%, so the final 30% does nothing. I can basically rock my foot a bit from toe to heel and nothing changes on the QC.
You are correct, we have been in touch and you’ve been a great help! I thought we had determined things were good with the Lehle (and I sincerely did think I responded to your last email, which I see now I did not, but yes I did manually try the TRS and recalibrated in the QC).
I came to this forum because I thought we had ruled out it being a Lehle issue, which I mentioned in my original post, as well as being in touch with Lehle Support already. Rest assured, no hate or disrespect for Lehle from me, I’m very happy with the pedal and support!
The other Expression Pedal I used to test the QC was the Dunlop DVP4. The QC is showing the same calibration anomaly. It will show 100% when the Dunlop is not in full toe position yet.
The only other pedal I have that has an Expression option is the Dr. Scientist Elements. It only controls the mix, so it’s hard to accurately determine when it’s at 100% as it just blends the gain into the clean signal.
I will try to borrow a pedal with a readable calibration from a friend and see if it does the same thing.
Again, my intent wasn’t to imply it was a Lehle issue, and I attempted to make that clear in my original post. If it was interpreted incorrectly that was certainly not my intent. I’m still using the pedal regardless .
Have you tried starting the QC up with and without TRS cables plugged in?
Have yoiu tried different brand TRS cables?
Have you tried plugging in the exp with full toe down, rather than heel down?
Confirmed that the calibration is set at 70%, not the effect it is controlling?
PS as it is new, comsider returning and getting another one,.so you get a fresh return window. If it is an issue with yours, you dont want to deal with repairs.
Thanks, Joki! While no one I know has a quad cortex, and no store around me has one in stock, I did borrow an HX One. The Lehle works perfectly with it. Full toe down is 100% on that pedal.
I can certainly vouche for Lehle Customer Service!
Did you ever get this resolved. I just bought a QC and Legel Dual Expression and noticed that the QC reads 100% when the pedal is down about 70%, just like you were experiencing.
I did! Neural was able to replicate the issue. They are working on an update for the next firmware release. It isn’t a Lehle issue, but they said the Lehle pedals seem to have a bigger ‘dead spot’.
Lehle customer service was excellent, as was Neurals!
Pretty sure this is a widespread problem. These Lehle pedals come up constantly online for not working well with the QC. I considered getting one of these a while back but it’s easily the number 1 pedal I see people post having problems with.
According to the most recent post it seems Neural might try to fix it with a firmware update? Either way idk why no one believed me that this Lehle pedal is known for having issues with the QC. Even proven by Neural (seemingly a problem on Neural’s end?)
I don’t have any issue with Lehle. I have suggested your products to many artists. But, there does seem to be some sort of bug with the expression pedal and QC. This explains why I’ve seen various people post about having difficulty setting it up.
I’ll quote the post above in case you didn’t read it. It isn’t me having some issue with the Lehle company- “Neural was able to replicate the issue. They are working on an update for the next firmware release. It isn’t a Lehle issue, but they said the Lehle pedals seem to have a bigger ‘dead spot’.”
If Neural is able to replicate the issue, then yes some sort of bug exists with their QC and the Lehle pedal. Hopefully they can fix that.
I would rather they fix the issue with your pedal, and then I could get something very reliable. The Dunlop pedals break super easy (I’ve been through so many of them) and the Boss EV30 has a very strange dead spot in its sweep. Lehle at least makes very rugged products, so yes I hope Neural fixes the issue they have with your pedal and maybe some others.
The Lehle is phenomenal! It works flawlessly with my Meris Mercury X, and when I was using the HX One. In today’s day and age, customer service speaks volumes. Lehle has been the best Customer experience experience I’ve had in forever. I would even consider Joki a friend at this point. The Dual Expression has so many features that thoroughly going through the manual resolves the majority of issues.
Considering the QC is having the issue with multiple expression pedals, I see no fault of the Lehle pedals. While Neural says the Lehle has a bigger dead spot, I found the Boss EV-30 had a much larger dead spot.
I took a video at my local music store showing the issue with the Boss EV-30. The Lehle works so much better with the QC than the Boss in my experience.
Also, Neural Customer Support has been spectacular as well. So nice to see companies working so effortlessly with their customers. Shout out to both companies for setting the bar!
Thanks for your reply and thanks for letting us know you did recommendations.
I am very sorry, but there is not some kind of “bug”.
And there’s a huge difference in between a “bug” and “having difficulties in setting it up”.
Often there are wrong calibrations, wrong or faulty cables, wrong assignments, etc. Sometimes customers need a bit of help.
In most cases we fixed this at the support, asked for other cables, I sent dozens of videos of the QC screens, we supplied firmware updates, and so on. The devil is in the details.
When there has been an issue on our side, we have fixed it and communicated it transparently.
And “unfortunately” customers without problems do not open a new topic in the forum like “I have no problem with the LEHLE and the QC, thanks, ciao”.
Would you agree on this?
Considering your quote, you even wrote: "Neural was able to replicate the issue. They * are working on an update for the next firmware release. It isn’t a Lehle issue, but they said the Lehle pedals seem to have a bigger ‘dead spot’. "
It means, *Neural works on an update.
Maybe it was a misunderstanding.
Neuralfound out, that there seems to be a bug in general at a version of CorOs.
It has nothing to do with our pedal in particular. It’s “expression” which is a divided voltage. This is not brand specific.
Again: if there’s an issue, we will always help our customers like @fendervox and offer support.
But we do not accept a statement like “These Lehle pedals come up constantly online for not working well”, as it’s simply proven wrong.
I would love, that we can end this debate peacefully.
All I’m saying is- there seems to be a bug on QC that affects Lehle expression pedals. Maybe another brand, but at least we know Lehle is one of them. Hopefully this gets fixed in an update. This explains why I have seen other people post about having difficulty with their Lehle pedal.
The Dunlop expression pedals work fine with the QC and dont have any issue with setup or sweep of the expression. But unfortunately they aren’t well made, and I would rather use a Lehle pedal because they are built much better. When Neural fixes their bug with Lehle (and maybe some other manufacturers) then I will consider buying one.
