Seriously why are they only 20ms it’s 2026.
Longer IR captures equals more accurate bass response because lower frequencies take more time to develop.
This would also be very useful for capturing Impulse Responses for stuff other than guitar cabinets. I use it to emulate acoustic guitar body resonance which btw sound amazing with piezo pickups on electric guitar.

It is this topic true? we are not having the full quality of an IR? I am new in this world just starting to experimetn with IRs

Not ideal when you fancy loading a Lexicon PCM70 or SPX90 ‘My Bloody Valentine’ reverb, I’d have said it was a memory-related thing except there’s a looper so patches can obviously read large chunks of data
Well I did a bit of research and it is not that bad… Most important information is in the 21 ms. And 200 and 500 are related to reflections, room reverb, etc… Which can be added with other blocks or even in the or loader anyway I think this feature should be added and let the user decide what they want the QC should be powerful enough to allow it so it got my vote !
I’m not sure long IRs are really going to make a big difference. Several times I read the Fractal founder prefers shorter IRs, and that is all you need to capture the core tone in cabs. As Oscar said, the rest is ambience and may get in the way in some instances.

The longer length can be helpful for low frequencies since those waves are much longer. I think the longer length helps with it feeling more like a real cabinet that has a better resonance. Doesn’t mean there’s a lack of low end with the QC, but certainly helps with some of the realism. You’re missing out on the real air and breathing an actual speaker has. It isn’t just a static EQ, unlike an IR. But then that adds to the issue of the IR tech being pretty basic and having a lot of room for improvement
I’m still arguing for this! Yes the cab resonance is surely contributing to the character. As for the 21 ms it covers the “EQ part” down to below 50Hz but other aspects are lost. The room isn’t an issue for me though, but the cab itself.
With you there! This does matter a lot for certain guys who are leaning on IR’s to replicate very specific sounds. Also really can help more sterile clean amps wake up a bit imo but that experience is subjective and anecdotal to my own experience with other units, not something scientific. Just a preference
Upvoted this a while ago. I do not know about cabs… For this one, I am mostly interested on improving the tone with acoustic guitar IRs instead. It is not a massive one, but on the DAW I did play with those IR’s lengths and it does make a difference.
I just bought the Quad Cortex, and why are the IRs so crippled? I didn’t even think to look into this because most devices don’t limit the length of IRs unless they’re reverb IRs. I’m pretty bummed out. Does anyone know if this is something that will be changed in a future update?
Don’t beat yourself up on technical specification. Try running a long IR in a DAW and see if you can even hear the difference first.
