**Feature request: Capture details, level consistency and better Cortex Cloud filtering**

Hi everyone,

I’d like to suggest a few improvements to make finding and comparing captures on Cortex Cloud easier.

The sheer number of captures can feel overwhelming, especially when many have little or no description. It’s often difficult to understand exactly what was captured, how it was captured, or which settings were used.

**1. A structured capture information form**

It would be useful to have a standard form when uploading a capture, with essential fields such as:

- Exact amp or pedal model and channel.

- Gain, EQ, master volume and other relevant settings.

- Whether it is a direct capture or includes a cabinet and microphone.

- Cabinet, speakers, microphones and mic placement, where applicable.

- Any pedals, boosts, load boxes or other equipment used in the signal chain.

- Additional notes about the capture process.

This information should be clearly visible on the capture page and ideally searchable or filterable. An optional photo of the amp/device settings would also be helpful.

**2. Clear capture guidelines and more consistent levels**

I’d also appreciate a clear, centralised official guide from Neural DSP covering recommended capture practices, particularly gain staging, input/output levels, avoiding clipping and checking the result against the original device.

There can be substantial volume differences between captures, which makes comparing them frustrating: louder can easily seem “better”, even when it isn’t.

I understand that different devices and settings naturally produce different levels. The goal wouldn’t be to make everything sound the same, but to provide a recommended reference procedure so captures are easier to compare without constantly adjusting the volume.

**3. Better filtering and quality checks**

With so many uploads, it would be helpful to have better ways to narrow down the results, alongside some form of technical quality checking or curation from Neural DSP.

For example:

- Filters based on the capture information above.

- A way to group multiple captures of the same device into a collection, rather than filling the results with individual entries.

- Automated warnings for clipping, unusually low levels or excessive noise, where technically possible.

- A curated selection of well-documented captures.

Some captures I’ve tried have sounded unexpectedly poor, but without any information it’s hard to tell whether that reflects the original tone, a deliberate creative choice or a problem during the capture process. Technical checks should help identify avoidable recording issues while leaving room for different tastes and unusual sounds.

Cortex Cloud is a fantastic resource, but I’d find it much more useful with **better documentation, more consistent levels and tools that make quality captures easier to find**.

Does anyone else find browsing and comparing captures unnecessarily difficult? I’d be interested to hear how others approach this.

I really don’t understand why people make captures public without any photo or description.

We need higher standards for captures and folders, photos etc.
