I recently purchased a new Quad Cortex and wanted to check on a small behavior I’ve noticed.
After properly shutting down the unit, when I then power off or unplug the power adapter, I sometimes hear a very brief squeaking sound. This sound does not occur during the shutdown process itself—only when the adapter is powered off afterward. It is quite faint and does not seem to come from the speakers (even though they are connected), but rather from the unit itself. It reminds me of the sound a small fan might make when it suddenly stops.
This does not happen every time, and aside from this, the Quad Cortex is working perfectly with no functional issues.
I just wanted to confirm whether this behavior is normal or something I should be concerned about.
Yes, speakers usually on and I initially thought it was coming from speakers but after listening carefully, it does appear to be coming from the unit. But as you also pointed out, let me check with speakers off just to be fully sure. I will also take a video and post it here. Thank you for your help.
If your QC is off, I don’t see how it would make a noise when you’re unplugging it, unless it’s just friction from there the the power cable and the QC connect
Please find attached three videos (labeled Video 1, 2, and 3) showing the squeaking sound I mentioned earlier.
In Video 1, the squeaking sound can be heard at around 12 seconds, immediately after the louder sound of switching off the main power button. A similar behavior can be heard in Video 2 at around 11 seconds. In both cases, there is no sound after the system is fully shut down; the squeaking occurs specifically right after cutting the main power.
At first, it was unclear whether the sound was coming from the QC unit or from the speakers placed next to it. To help isolate the source, Videos 1 and 2 were recorded with the speakers powered on, while Video 3 was recorded with the speakers powered off. As you can hear in Video 3, the squeaking sound is not present when the speakers are off.
That said, I am still not fully certain whether this was coincidental. I will continue to monitor the behavior, and for now, I will ensure that the speakers are turned off before cutting power to the QC unit.
Do you have any thoughts on this behavior? For the moment, it seems reasonable to assume the sound may be coming from the speakers, but even in that case, I would like to understand why this might be happening and whether it is something to be concerned about.
