I’ve owned and worked with a number of active PA speakers that have a similar switch and they’re almost always too much. A variable control would be better or, better yet, just bass and treble controls. Sometimes I think manufacturers add stuff like this to have another cheap-to-build “feature” on the web page.

I run vintage Sansui amps in my studio and living room. Both run through very good equalizers for my normal to louder listening level. If I am playing at a lower volume I would much prefer to just bump the base and treble controls a notch where I even have a choice of the roll off freq.

Hi mate, sounds nice and fat to me. I mainly use clean funk stuff but I captured my boogie and it was pretty close.

Hey Jon, when you say it sounds “nice and fat”, are you referring to the bass/treble boost switch on your PA speaker or the Reality 112 cab (original topic)?

The reality cab, its passive and I use a power stage 200 on my board. Have the rear tweeter set at about 50%. The cab has plenty of low end for my needs. Surprisingly loud with the amp vol at about 2 oclock.

Hi yes, I play in a band with horns and percussion, no issues being heard, often asked to turn down… haha. The cab really throws the sound around the room, in some rooms its a bit toppy so i dial back the tweeter and apply eq on the poser stage. It is also very faithful of the captures of my fender and boogie amps. Hope that helps.

Wow! If it keeps up with drums, percussion and horns, that’s some serious output!! 😆 I was considering two of the active units but it’s a sizable investment, sound-unheard and without the ability to return them. I appreciate your review.

Thanks again, Jon. Our bass player has been in contact with Alex at Barefaced and it looks like he is going to order a couple of their light-weight single 10" cabs. Although they’re a very different animal from their Reality FRFR cabs, I’m curious to hear them and to see how the purchasing process goes. Barefaced seems to be highly regarded by the bass community.
