Name confusion. A lot of people don’t understand Neural and NAM are different. Aside from if they add it, there’s no point to their own tech. It’s like asking why Kemper doesn’t have NAM

I agree that it may not bring too much value for the QC since there is already a very powerful capture feature. However, this may not necessarily be a good reason to not support NAM. Both HeadRush Prime and MOOER have their own proprietary capture ecosystem, and they also added support for NAM.

It’s hilarious it’s called the “Neurig”. Might as well be “Keurig”. Definitly seems like an interesting modeler, but because it’s Zoom it’s really going to be a Kmart version of anything it’s copying.

I did find it interesting it specifically has a polyphonic pitch shifter and a model of a boss slow gear. Also yes, it’s relevant to this thread because it’s clearly a funny clone of the QC/Mini but runs A2 lite.

I can’t see any similarities with the QC Mini. Zoom looks like poorly designed Chinese gear. Looooool!

It’s pretty clear it’s a knockoff of the QC and mini lol. It looks like when people were trying to do mock ups of what they thought the QC mini or nano would look like before they were released. Obviously the mini has a different control layout. I just mean to form factor of the mini and then bootleg visual of the QC

+1 to add NAM support.

For me, this has nothing to do with whether NAM sounds better or worse than Neural Capture. I love my Quad Cortex, and I appreciate Neural DSP’s proprietary technology.

It’s about freedom of choice, access to a wider range of sounds, and the long-term competitiveness of the platform.

There’s some kind of parallel with the automotive industry.

Car manufacturers spent years developing their own infotainment systems. Then Apple CarPlay and Android Auto became widely adopted. Manufacturers continued developing their proprietary systems while also allowing customers to access external ecosystems.

And the market responded accordingly, some car buyers (me included) wouldn’t purchase a vehicle without CarPlay or Android Auto. Compatibility became an important purchasing criterion, regardless of how good the manufacturer’s own system was.

NAM offers something particularly valuable: an open-source ecosystem where musicians can create, share and use models across different manufacturers’ hardware. Every new compatible device potentially increases the value of that ecosystem for everyone.

And that’s where I see a potential problem for Neural DSP. As NAM adoption grows, customers may increasingly consider compatibility when choosing their next modeler. A guitarist with hundreds of NAM models might naturally prefer hardware that can load them.

At some point, the absence of an open standard can become a competitive disadvantage, regardless of the quality of the proprietary alternative.

I really hope Neural DSP considers the bigger picture here.

</div>

All that you put forth makes perfect sense and I agree 100%. But…

NDSP creates and SELLS their plugins, marketing them as the best emulations of classic amps and artists’ rigs that money can buy. So their business dilemma would be to foresee what would be more profitable: 1) Implement NAM support and probably sell more QCs, but probably less plugins or 2) Not implement NAM support, possibly see a drop in QC sales due to competition from competitors with NAM support, but continue to sell a lot of plugin licenses to QC owners.

A lot of moving parts involved in making that decision.

</div>

I don’t think having access to captures makes plugins obsolete. I use captures and still bought 5 NDSP plugins. At least with the current state of capture tech, each capture is just a single set of settings/signal chain etc. Plugins give me way more of an ability to dial in settings and plugins have effects that NAM and NDSP can’t capture yet (modulation, time based effects, etc). Cortex Cloud even has captures of NDSP plugins, but people still buy the plugins. I think these are apples and oranges, with some, but minimal overlap.

Hello,

I don’t think adding NAM support would pose much of a problem for their business model, which is based on high-quality plugins — one could argue it’s a strategic or commercial decision, since Neural DSP sells its own proprietary modeling technologies that effectively compete with NAM. But I think the technical constraint is actually the more important factor here.

Is the QC even capable of running NAM A2 Full in real time ? That’s far from obvious. Maybe a “Lite” version would be more realistic — though even that wouldn’t just be a smaller version of what the QC already offers natively: it’s a genuinely different (and arguably more capable) architecture, and it would open the door to the whole NAM community library, which isn’t nothing.

</div>

I understand the appeal of freedom of choice, but I think something important is being overlooked in this debate: open compatibility comes with an opportunity cost.

Neural DSP has already validated its ecosystem with highly consistent products and ultra-high-fidelity V2 captures. I’d much rather see them invest their development resources into optimizing their own DSP, creating new amps, and perfecting what they already do well, instead of adapting the platform to external formats.

NAM offers a sea of options, but access to thousands of captures doesn’t guarantee the standard of a professional product. When the final quality depends on the converters, gain staging, and the ears of thousands of different users, the gear’s response varies drastically.

An open ecosystem delegates the burden of evaluation to the user. For those who see experimentation as an end in itself, this is great. But it also turns the workflow into an exhausting process of trial and error. When you need a solid, reliable tone to work or practice, that lack of a filter becomes a massive distraction from the main tool.

Yeah, @kamui you’re probably right. If NAM support became available, I would probably still buy plugins. I have a handful now and plan on at least a few more. BUT, I buy plugins more for DAW recording. Not sure if I’d be buying plugins just for QC use, I can certainly make do with the models and captures that are available for live, rehearsal, or jamming sounds.

After spending several hours on the Tone3000, I didn’t find a single sample that was really as impressive as they’d claimed… Sure, there’s a lot of junk on Cloud Cortex too, but so far I’ve always been able to find something that does the job well.

Both NAM and V2 capture are just technological tools. It’s just that most profiles were created using unprofessional or improperly configured equipment. Or plugins in general. This applies to both systems. I voted in favor of support because it’s better to have the appropriate tool than the opposite. Although I would prefer to further equip the device with modeled modules. Which allow for more flexible tuning than both profiling options. Still, these technologies are greatly overrated. And most people don’t need several thousand amplifiers to play. However, the flexibility of routing and the quality of processing modules, as well as the availability of sufficient power, yes. In this regard, QC remains one of the best devices.

Hi,

I completely agree. It’s true that NAM support might be a selling point for Neural, but ultimately I don’t really think it would make a big difference. And as I said before, for technical reasons, I doubt it’s possible to run A2 Full on the QC without compromises, but I could be wrong.
Furthermore, I’d rather see Neural focus on addressing user requests than waste time trying to adapt a product that isn’t part of their ecosystem, as well as everything related to the product’s optimization and overall quality.
